Once they discover a great resting spot,
it's their's!

11. She is a cutey...
But ornery...

We saved her from the mean streets of Cleveland...

And I think we were a day or two late...

She is freindly, and then goes off and sulks and hisses....

Hates the other cats...

But, how can you not love that ball of fur....

My Sara was also saved from the mean streets of Cleveland, and eventually found her way to me. Small world.:-)

14. Thank you Rhiannon and WC for rescuing your animals.
Edited on Sat Jul-08-06 04:54 PM by Kajsa
I wish more people would rescue animals
instead of buying them from puppy mills
and pet stores.

Sara is a real sweetie, as is Ms. Kitty.

Bless you, both!

21. You never have to thank me; I thank my friends in rescue.
Edited on Sat Jul-08-06 05:36 PM by Rhiannon12866
They bring about miracles, each and every day. I make it a point to thank them for what they do and the very special pets that they've brought me.:loveya:

And all of my guys have been rescue, including my little guy in my sig line. He may be a pretty rare breed, a Brussels Griffon, but he belonged to an older lady, who died, and he totally fell through the cracks, was threatened with euthanasia twice before he found me. But the love of my life was my Barney, a senior dog, 10 or 11 when I adopted him, who had been a stud dog at a puppy mill, until he got too old and they were just going to put him down. But this wonderful lady in rescue, who I've gotten to know and who eventually placed a second dog with me, saved his life. They said that Barney was 10 or 11 when I adopted him and I had him for eight really great years. He was the most wonderful dog, with the best temperament, and he is my inspiration. So I just don't adopt animals from rescue, but choose the older ones, because they're just the best, and the ones who need me. My little guy is now 12. I've had him for nearly four years. Sara is at least 10, though I will never know, since she was found as a stray. I adopted her in 2003, on my birthday. She was my birthday present to me, and to my little Meneken, who missed his sister....:-)

22. I love them all !
They are very fortunate to have you as their human
companion. I'm so glad you adopt the older animals.
They are so often overlooked because of their age.

They are sweethearts!

Bless you again, sweetie!

29. Thanks! But it's my friends in rescue who have the tough job.
I just couldn't do what they do, facing tough abuse cases and the heartbreak of abandoned pets... I have only rescued one of my pets, on my own, my cat, who was abandoned, and it took me four months and a have-a-heart trap to finally bring her inside. It was really tough, but I was determined. *sigh* But adopting older animals definitely has its rewards. I'm used to older animals and there is no housebreaking (except for Barney, who had never lived in a home, poor little guy) or chewing and they're usually pretty content. once they realize that they're safe. But there's also the heartbreak of not having them with you as long, so it's a trade-off. Not one day goes by that I don't miss Barney. My little guy is sleeping behind me, on my chair, as I write this. He bonded me from the first moment that I held him, as did Sara. I had a hell of a time at the groomer's, since she wouldn't leave me to go with anyone else...;(

31. Everyone of my cats has been a rescue, of sorts....
They either found me, wandered up to the house and we took them in or...

Someone I knew was going to gt rid of a cat or kitten and I took them in...

Tried once with a dog but my life style is just too eratic to be able to devote to a dog...

It's just not fair...

But my cats, well they love me and I love them...

34. My cats have all been rescue, as well, also of sorts...
I've only had three, have mostly had dogs. And you're right, dogs require quite a lot... Two of my cats I adopted when my uncle died and the #$!$!! he was married to got rid of all of his animals. Nobody would take his two cats, so I did. One of them was incredibly special to me and gave me my screen name. I already posted her pic. And my other cat I rescued myself. She somehow got away from a neighbor who moved and was on her own for far too long. But I finally managed to bring her in and, with good veterinary care, she turned into almost a lap cat. Here's that kitty, my Catlin. And you're also doing a very good thing...

of her. I think that this was taken in December or January, just after she was groomed. They have often given her a bandanna, but I just loved the ribbons. She got rid of one of them, early on, but the other one remained for quite awhile...:loveya:

44. I'm so sorry, but am more than willing to share my guys with you.
If you checked out Sara's Dogster page, you'll see that it links to Meneken's, my little dog in my sig line. He's sleeping behind me in my chair, as I write this. And somewhere there is a dog who is right for you. In time, you'll find a new friend. I've had seven dogs in my life, which I hate to even mention, but I adopt the older ones, and I don't find them, they seem to find me...:-)

My dad told me something very similar. He said, "no matter where you go, you will run across at least one asshole. Once you realize which one it is---turn around and walk away from the fool." Could our dads be brothers?
