Watching "Miami Blues" right now
Forgot how much I love this movie. Alec Baldwin is actually good in this one. Jennifer jason Leigh is amazing.

I am a big fan of the late Charles Willeford(quite a cult figure now)and the entire Hoke Mosely series -- Miami Blues, The Way we Die Now and I think... the Shark Infested Custard. As cool as MB, the movie was, I thoubght the books were way better, the kind you just can't put down.
A cool site on Willeford.....http://www.dennismcmillan.com/charleswillefo/

2. All right another Willeford fan!
He was fantastic. I first encountered him with "Cockfighter" and was delighted to find that he had a large body of work going back to the 50s and was still writing (this was in the mid 70s) No one, and that includes Hiaason, MacDonald, and McGuane, captures the sleazy, sunbaked dread of Florida like Willeford does.
I rank him as a better noir author than even Jim Thompson. Thompson certainly could be a powerful author informed by a dark pathology, but much of his work is uneven. Willeford always wrote at a consistently high level.

4. Willeford is awesome
I read Miami Blues as a kid before it became a movie. I also like Elmore Leonard, who was inspired hugely by Willeford.

3. You know that scene in the convenient store
Where he confronts the armed robber? That store is within walking distance from my house.

6. I will take a picture from the outside
And maybe even the inside. And I will post it on this thread. Maybe later this afternoon.
