Any advice for getting rid of bees/wasps in my backyard? |
|
Earlier today I was cutting my lawn when I disturbed an underground bees nest (I was lucky - I was only stung four times). Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions as to how I can (safely) get rid of this nest and (more importantly) avoid more nests being built.
We also have some nest being built under the rim of our above ground pool (and the deck).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks.

3. Get some of those Ortho spray cans. |
|
Also, try and find some beekeeper's gear. If you can't, wear really tight clothes (leather preferred) so the bugs can't get inside.
BTW-underground nest...that sounds more like yellow jackets than bees.

Call a beekeeper. You and your home will not be exposed to any poisons if the beekeeper is going to take the queen bee & her hive. He will remove them them alive. For that reason, a beekeeper is usually cheaper than an exterminator. He's getting something valuable to him in exchange.
Your county extension office should be able to direct you to a local beekeeper.

Both my parents and their neighbors have wasp nests this year. Last year it seems that everyone had ants, this year wasps and hornets. Always sumpthin'.

9. Hire a professional beekeeper to remove the nests and bees. |
|
It's a couple hundred bucks.

12. We have this problem sometimes. |
|
First, wait until it is dark so that the wasps have all returned to their nest. Then spray the whole can of wasp killer down the hole. Wear something protective just in case. You my have to do this a couple of times. In our experience, once is usually enough because once the nest is contaminated, the wasps that don't die will leave and not come back.
