Just got it on DVD. That is a great film. Loved seeing the young Anthony Hopkins, and John Hurt surely should have gotten an Oscar.
In the "making of" special feature, it included that Mel Brooks was one of the executive producers. I had no idea of this. It seems the comedians have the biggest hearts, when you look at this and "Brazil" by Terry Gilliam.

1. Mel Brooks was actually responsible for getting Lynch on board to direct. |

Lynch didn't think he had a chance after Brooks saw Eraserhead, but apparently that's what clinched it for Brooks. </random David Lynch trivia>

3. I like the stuff about Hurt as well. |

They were trying to impress him so much, but he said he could do the part for free.

4. Just rented "Eraserhead" yesterday |

I decided to after hearing about in the "most weird movie" thread.
Elephant Man is a great movie. I saw it a while back late at night on IFC.

2. This is actually Lynch's most "conventional" movie |
|
Well, except for "The Straight Story," I guess.
Mel Brooks describes Lynch as "Jimmy Stewart from Mars."
