9. they suddenly seem to be the hottest team in baseball
when before it seemed like they had 1st place locked up. Now they are behind Pittsburgh and soon will be behind the Cubs in the race to be #1 looser. Maybe if there was a loser World Series where the last place in each division and one wildcard played, with the team that loses the best of five going on to the next round, and so on, the Royals might be the American league's pennant loser, and play against either the Pirates or the Cubs.
