I have three different Ethiopian restaurants to choose from should whim take me. Small towns just can't compete with that kind of thing.

I don't mind the in-between too. I really don't like small towns as far as choosing a place to live, but I love visiting some of them.

I love: knowing who my postmaster is; being on a first name basis with the guys at the hardware store; being greeted by name at the bank; walking safely, alone down the streets; not locking my doors.

In fact, I can't stand big cities and do all I can to avoid them.

I just got back from spending a week in the Midwest. I was about ready to go crazy because there's nothing to do there.

12. I love small towns, but have always lived in big cities. |

I was born in Philadelphia, PA, grew up in Miami, FL. I have lived in the New York City area, Los Angeles, CA, and Birmingham, AL and now I'm in the Atlanta metro area. When I first moved north of Atlanta to Woodstock, GA, it was a small town, but now I may as well be living in the city now. There is nothing but housing developments and shopping malls.

13. Big city, or pure country. |
|
Small towns are fun to drive through, usually fast. Fun for festivals and to visit. No fun to live in, for me. Too populous to be private, too small to be exciting. Too many people have too much control of you, through gossip, community pressure, etc. I prefer anonymity, either in a big city, or out in the middle of no where.

I'm currently attending college in a small town, and while you do grow used to it (plus, it does wonders for concentration), it's taught me that I don't think I'd ever want to make a life in a place that small.

Like where I live, for instance. A metro area of 210,000 people, yet it retains a lot of small-town charm.

I live in a small town right now (4-5,000 people) ad I fucking hate it. I go to school in a fairly small city and it's great. Not so big as to be intimidating, but not so small as to be boring.
