I figured out why soccer will never be popular here... |
|
It's the commentators. They are irritating and suck every enjoyable moment out the game. Who wants that?

1. Well, the "voice" and the "ex-pro" strategy is a bit rough with soccer |
|
Because one gets the idea the "voice" has no idea what the fuck he is talking about.

3. Yes, but no, I repeat NO vapid sideline reporters. |
|
Dave O'Brien sucks at soccer, although he's ok at baseball.

8. It's very different than most U.S. sports... not only low scores, but also |
|
no real breaks in the game other than halftime, each half flows continuously.
I guess this would be bad for commercial breaks and "TV timeouts".

There are few and I mean few thing more irritating than the droning dribble commentators on'Monday Night Football'.
I hit the mute button for most of the games.
Soccer commentators are much better.
Who can resist that world famous " Gooooooooooooooooooooooalllllll"?

Besides, we've got no decent announcers for any sport in this country anymore.

13. Maybe if soccer had half naked cheerleaders jumping around |

on the sidelines.
That might work.

When Sky TV (Murdoch's UK TV station) won the rights to show live football here in the UK in the early 90's they tried a few different ideas to excite the crowd.
We had mascots running around the pitch before the game. Something to entertain the kids apparently. We had cheerleaders appear shortly before games and at half time.
Pretty much everyone thought it was a joke. It was tacky and unnecessary and demeaned the spectators who didn't need anyone else to get them excited about a game they were already likely to enjoy.
The cheerleaders vanished very quickly.

16. I have as much respect for commentators |
|
that can hold a "gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllll, goal goal goal goooooooooaaal" for five minutes as I do for athletes who can run full-out without stopping for 90 minutes.
listening to mexican commentators is a good way to learn turbo spanish, too.
