Thank you Germany
for 4 weeks of a fantastic time.

For 4 weeks party and good mood.

For a wonderful World Cup.

For 4 weeks of best summer weather (OK, thank YOU weather gods)

For 4 weeks of showing the world who we can be.

For 4 weeks of showing ourselves who we can be.

For 4 weeks of a positive patriotism, that Germany needed.

THANK YOU

Yes, I am German but I hope that doesn't change a thing.

1. I wish I was there .
Sigh like always I miss Germany. And I am glad to see all the German flags on tv. You should not be ashamed to wave your flag because one thing that I learned from living there is that you are very opened people who want to be welcomed with open arms just like everyone else does. I do miss PennyMarkt though ,for reals. We have an Aldi in my town but its just not the same LOL But you can keep Stoiber, thats one person who should not be exported ;)

2. WEll, he is someone who could get lost
and with him Merkel and Koch (Ministerpräsident of Hessen, where I live).

We have to live with our history and nobody here (except certain idiots on the right side) says we should forget it. We never should forget what happened between 1933 and 1945. But that is over 60 years ago. And Germany changed. A lot. I sometimes wish people would notice that. And the last 4 weeks showed it to the world I believe.

Listen, I will be in the States in September for 3 weeks. Joan_Alpern and I will go on a trip from NY to FL and back. We will be also in NC. Do you want to meet and do you want me to bring you something from Gemany?

5. I wish I was there to see it
The is the first time I really got into Soccer, and I'm a fan for life after this. And the scenes of Germany during the coverage were stunning; I want to go there now...

6. We Germans were as amazed about ourselves
as the rest of the world. The last time there was such a great mood in Germany was 1989 when the wall came down and Germany got united again. And even back then there was no such positive patriotism. Because the world was scared of the united Germany.

The last 4 weeks .... totally different matter.

You should come here. Germany is a beautiful country and most people are friendly and welcome to foreigners.

9. Actually there was no noise
all the parping turned out to be by the family next door to me, and the reason the horn was being sounded incessantly was because it was being held by their toddler. Once they had won the game they all went inside and there was no more noise.

How was it for you?

I've haven't been to Germany much, but I liked what I saw. And everybody here knows that Germany is a great place. In fact, when British people are sometimes mean about Germany...I think they're just jealous. ;)

(And everybody wants to buy German cars).

Air Berlin suck, though. ;)

10. It got quiet after some time too
at least the horrible air horns stopped. Didn't mind the car honking so much.

Glad you had a quiet night as well.

I love Britain. I think you are a fantastic country too. Except for the food. I mean greasy fish and chips??? Haggis??? But then, the whiskey makes up for that :)

11. The best thing about British food
is all the foreign food. ;)

Actually, I'm serious. There is no shortage of good food available in Britain. It's just that most of it is foreign. But there's no need to eat bad food here.

"British" ethnic food tends to be peasant food, which is why it is so uninspiring.

12. You are right
Edited on Mon Jul-10-06 04:01 AM by MissHoneychurch
you have the Indish dishes, the Chinese, the Pakistanish (sp?), the Italian ....

I remember when I was in Bournemouth as a pupil (age 14 and 15, to learn English, but it failed back then) I lived one time with a family that cooked only "British" and the second time with a family that cooked "foreign". The British was overcooked, no spices. The foreign was spicy, different dishes, alltogether yummy.
Another thing. Back then the sandwiches we got for lunch used to suck themselves on our palatine. Then we had to drink those horrible "juices" which tasted like chemistry to get the sandwiches off our palatine. And as "desert" vinegar chips ... LOL

I'd go back again in a heartbeat. I especially like Munich. If I were offered tickets and an all expense paid trip, I'd leave immediately. I can dream, can't I? I'd like to see the eastern half of Germany.
