GOP Husband, Democrat Wife Battle For Same House Seat
<snip>

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Politics really does make strange bedfellows, at least in the Ippel household.

Jeff Ippel is a Republican, trying to win his party's primary to run for a seat in the Kansas House. His wife Pam is unopposed in the August Democratic primary, for the same seat.

In order to oppose his wife in a head-to-head election on Nov. 1, Jeff has to beat primary opponents Sherrelyn Smith and Jeff Colyer.

She was the first in the family to enter the race. But Jeff Ippel said he has better ideas than his wife.

Some of their opponents are calling the spousal political duel a sham. Republican Jeff Colyer, who's also running in the primary, said both Ippels are trying to confuse the voters.

The Ippels deny there's a hidden agenda in their political family feud.

In order to fund their race, the Ippel's cancelled a planned vacation to Portugal to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.

2. I dunno
It seems to work for Carville and Matalin.

When I was a kid, my mom voted Democratic and my dad voted Republican. But that was when Taft and Eisenhower were the leading Republicans. He's voted Democratic since Nixon.

6. This guy is an asshole
unless he really is a ringer (like his primary opponent claims), in which case they are both a little sleazy.

His wife is running for office and instead of supporting her, he runs against her? What a complete jerk! (and I believe I would say that even if the sexes and the parties were reversed).
