Are Predisone "munchies" and other munchies the same?
Really, this is a question for those who know about other munchies and have taken Predisone. I have another 24 hours with this pill and it is like living with an empty pit for a stomach.

Just curious.

2. Had to take Prednisone for a severe hives breakout earlier this year
and, if anything, I was not hungry, and felt super-energized. But apparently, it is a very common side effect, according to the Google search I did (prednisone appetite).

One referenced link:

<snip>
Increased appetite and weight gain. Prednisone increases your appetite. Follow a diet to maintain your weight. Develop an eating schedule and stick to it. If you eat when you feel hungry, you will be eating all the time.

4. Prednisone munchies are what got me fat
9 years ago, I had a heel spur on my right foot. The damn HMO doc gave me a prednisone shot rather than operate on my foot. Several months later, I ended up gaining 50 pounds within 4 months!

I WILL NEVER ACCEPT ANOTHER PREDNISONE SHOT AGAIN!!! (yes I am yelling)

5. When I had to take it
I could not stop eating at all. No matter what. Nothing would
fill me up. I have to get mine in shot form, and I had the
bad fortune of getting a shot the day before the State Fair.
Holy cow - I can't even remember everything I ate that day!

AFAIK, other munchies are just munchies. You snack a little
and then you're full.

6. Thanks. That's what I suspected.
I've tried to counter the ginned up appetite by making a huge bowl of salad every day and snacking frequently on it. And fruit, lots of fruit. About the time the effects of one pill wears off, it is time to take another. I've moved my schedule around till I take the last one just before bedtime and sleep through it with the effects counterbalanced by the Zyrtec. Zyrtec makes me sleepy.

8. I embarrassed the hell out of myself one time
I had gotten a shot a day before we went to a friend's
house for dinner. She's an outstanding cook and wanted
to show off. She made chicken picatta among other things
and I think I ate 6 chicken breasts. And forget about
the veggies! Oddly, we haven't been invited back.

7. depends upon the person...my kids took it for asthma during
really severe attacks...no affect upon their eating habits.

I took it for my back and was just incredibly tired.

I have taken for asthma...and if anything it allowed me to breathe easier...so I was able to rest easily...

9. I have been on Prednisone courses for about 3 and a half years now.
I don't know how long you are going to be on it, but I only had trouble with hunger the first time around.

It still bloats me out, I'm just not eating to cause it anymore. :)
