What's your favorite feel-good movie?
Mine, you say?

Star Trek II.

"The no-win scenario is a situation every commander may face... it's a test of character..."

And who couldn't love Kirk's way of getting out of it?

Unfortunately, cheating doesn't always work in the real world...

And that's when the writers cheated to bring him back in Star Trek III... good stuff, that... despite it all. :D

1. Risky Business
Sometimes you just have to say: "What the fuck?"
That line of dialogue helped me more than any self-help book or therapist visit ever did.

...I mean, really...having a film called "The Search for Spock", then ending it by saying, "sorry, folks...we can't find him?"

It's funny seeing places I know well (I used to have a membership at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is what they used for the Cetacean Institute) re imagined. On a more juvenile level, I get a first class giggle fit every time I hear "nuclear wessels."

14. "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" would be my top pick. So many great
lines in that one, and the overall message is just amazing...particularly for the time in which it was made!

I love Monsignor Ryan's character in particular, and Katharine Hepburn's character telling off 'Hillary'(played by Mrs. Olsen of Folger's coffee commercials) is CLASSIC!

I'm just a Hepburn fan all the way around, really...but this is my favorite of all her films.

19. Several..Conan the Barbarian, Excalibur, Apocalypse Now,
ST2: Wrath of Khan, ST6: Undiscovered Country, All Movies starting with "Star Wars" and ending with an overly long descriptive title, Fight Club, Death to Smoochy and about a thousand others. :D

It tends to be specific scenes though...

  • Conan - most of the film though the scene when they sneak into the throne room and whoop ass with "Anvil of Crom" jamming is where it's at.

  • Excalibur - when Percival returns to Arthur with the Grail and he drinks, gives his speech and they go riding.

  • Apocalypse Now - The horror... the horror.

  • Wrath of Khan - Whole move, but the sneak attack by Reliant and the battle in the nebula are badass.

  • Undiscovered Country - I see you Kirk, can you see me? Admit it, you prefer it this way, warrior to warrior, no peace in our time. Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!

  • Star Wars - All parts involving Vader and/or lightsabers. Best scenes: Ep1 - Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon and Darth Maul/Duel of the Fates end battle. Ep2 - The scene on Camino, I love that watery world and all the aliens. Ep3 - All of it... Ep4 - Greedo v. Solo in booth (original, unaltered version) also, I find your lack of faith disturbing. Ep5 - When Vader's ship, the Executor, appears for the first time; the Imperial March plays and it begins eclipsing other ships with it's shadow. I actually cried in the theatre in awe and wonder. Ep6 - Finale battle.. teh roxxor. Wait a minute, how can they be jamming us if they...don't..know..we're...coming.... All ships pull up! It's a trap!

  • Fight Club - entire film, one of the best ever. Best scene when I need a pick me up though.. "You met me at a very strange time in my life" buildings blow up, Tyler and Marla hold hands and watch. Best scene ever.

  • Death to Smoochy - Could someone turn the house lights up please? Again, incredibly awesome film.

31. I love Breaking Away as well.
Whenever that's on TV, I simply wind up dropping whatever I'm doing and watch it.

There have been any number of movies I've used to put myself in a better mood. Usually a good old comedy or crowd-pleaser will work (Arsenic and Old Lace, Bringing Up Baby, The Man Who Came to Dinner, the 1940 version of Pride and Prejudice), but I also like the 1990s versions of Enchanted April and Cold Comfort Farm. And I really got hooked on Born Romantic and Four Weddings and a Funeral. What can I say? British comedy works for me.

40. Excellent movie--totally mismarketed
Saw it when it was at the theater--my friend and I went, expecting an uproarious comedy, thanks to the phked up marketing. We were a bit let down, but liked it all the same--and it grew on me more and more as the years went on.

First, you are assaulted with images of incredibly annoying actors and actresses doing incredibly annoying things while delivering incredibly bad dialog, then over the course of the movie most of them are violently dismembered.
