June Allyson dies at 88
Edited on Mon Jul-10-06 05:50 PM by WI_DEM
probably many people don't remember her, but in the 40's and 50's Miss Allyson was a huge star. Often cast in "wife" roles due to her girl next door reputation. She worked so many times with Jimmy Stewart (as his wife in "The Stratton Story", "The Glenn Miller Story" and "Strategic Air Command") that Allyson's husband, Dick Powell, would quip, "I'm June Allyson's other husband."

Another star of the golden era of Hollywood gone. June Allyson dead at age 88.

1. Oh No! --- I Positively ADORE Her...
I wrote to her a couple of years ago and she responded by sending me a personalized autographed photo. "To Allen -- Best Wishes, June Allyson."

That's sad! She had a wonderful voice... it reminded me a little of Kathleen Turner's voice when she was younger.

Goodbye, June! :loveya:

2. She was so wonderful
Glenn Miller story is one of my favorite films and she is perfect in it.

As she herself said, she was more like an ordinary woman than most of the actresses of her day.

I am glad she had a long life and look forward to seeing her again soon in the movies.

4. RIP Ms. Allyson
Thank you for all the hours of laughter and tears you brought to me over the years. You will be missed by those of us that remember.

She was so wonderful in White Christmas as well as the films you mentioned and many more.

5. Now, she will be 88 forever. May her passing remind us all
that life is short and we have never too much time for gladdening the hearts of those traveling the dark journey with us. Be swift to love, make haste to be kind.

6. That airy voice and sweet smile.
And I think she did a Depends commercial ages ago.

RIP Ms Allyson.

7. The Permanent Ingenue. She will be missed. Jean Arthur of her time.
Goodbye, June, and thank you. Van Johnson, Peter Lawford and Jimmy Stewart miss you, and so will I. You were born the same year as my Mom, and I appreciate you.

8. I remember her movies when they were released the first time.
I guess we are all getting rather old. She did have that well-scrubbed ingenue quality about her even well into her middle-age.

9. Aw, man
I love every movie I've seen with her and Jimmy Stewart, which includes the three in the OP.

She was the perfect wife.
