Does anyone else miss "album oriented rock" radio?
Where they used to play different tracks from a singer's or band's, not just the designated "hit single?" I think this reached its peak in the late 1970s, then died out when videos and MTV became popular.

2. Yes, but the core problem is deeper than the radio.

I was telling my son just the other day how, some songs that I hear to THIS day but be preceded by and followed with particular song as placed on the album. A few examples:
The Cars - The Cars: You're All I've Got Tonight must be preceded with Don't Cha Stop and followed with Bye Bye Love
Led Zeppelin - ZoSo: It has to go The Battle Of Evermore, Stairway To Heaven THEN Misty Mountain Hop

It really speaks to the media. Once you owned the media, cassettes and LP's made it very hard to selectivly choose which songs you wanted to hear, so you heard them all. You liked some more than others, but you KNEW them all. The release of CD's where you could hit one button and scan through songs with which you were unfamiliar, and then MP3's in which case you don't even bother adding to a playlist changed everything. We're in a "singles" kind of society now more than ever.

3. Yeah, but I get a reasonable facsimile..
.... on Sirius Satellite. Channel 16, "The Vault" is playing Astronomy Domine - Pink Floyd as we type.

4. I hate the radio in general...(cept some internet stations)
even the classic rock stations play the same frickin songs over and over.
If the bands are such legends then they must have more than two songs.

5. there's some scattered stations still doing it...
but radio in general is no longer a means to play music, just a means to generate revenue

if i was filthy rich i'd buy a bunch of radio stations and make them ad free, all day every day
