Hilton Labels 'Simple Life' As "Fake"
Edited on Mon Jul-10-06 07:57 PM by Finnfan
http://www.imdb.com/news/wenn/2006-07-10/#3

Paris Hilton has rubbished the idea The Simple Life offers viewers an insight into what she is actually like as the reality show is "fake." The hotel heiress and her former best friend Nicole Richie star in the popular program, but Hilton deliberately set out to invent a character not like her true self. She says, "Simple Life is a reality show and people might assume it's real. But it's fake. All reality shows are fake basically. When you have a camera on you, you are not going to act yourself. So before I started the show I thought I'd make a character like the movies. Legally Blonde and Clueless mixed together, with a rich girl all-in-one. Even my voice is different from me in real life. It's a character I like to play. I think its carefree and happy. The public think they know me but they really don't."

***

You know what? I believe her. I think that the idea that a being a "dumb blonde" means that you automatically can make millions is full of crap. No matter what you think of Ms. Hilton, (and I personally am not a fan, to say the least), she has kept this going way too long to be considered anything other than a tough, smart businesswoman.

... and I STILL think that anyone who believes that Jessica Simpson really didn't know that Pam Anderson was being filmed in slow motion at the beginning of Baywatch is far stupider than Simpson and Hilton combined.

1. I agree with everything you said.
It's obvious at times.

And, I don't buy the Jessica "chicken of the sea", either.

2. No. You can be incredibly stupid and still be a success

You haven't hung around many successful businesspeople, have you?

edit: A perfect sentiment for spelling errors. :D

4. Yes I have. A lot.
And they are all smart at something, or they wouldn't be successful.

I don't respect them, I wouldn't want to be them, but none, not a one, is a brain-dead moron.

5. Completely disagree--are you talking small town local losers?
Edited on Mon Jul-10-06 08:17 PM by jpgray
Because yeah, the proprietor of Joe's AC Shop might have a brain, but if you hang out with the jet-setter crowds, you'll find there is no meritocracy at work--most of them are where they are due to connections and family. This is why we have one of the lowest class-mobility rates among industrial nations, and an exponentially expanding gap between wealthy and impoverished.

6. jpgray has it right
it must be wonderful to live in that world where intelligence and merit are rewarded instead of resented but most of us live on planet earth and we are all aware that idiots often thrive because they are not resented and they can be "hail fellow well met" on the golf course

i know too many people in the casino industry who do VERY well who are deeply, bone-deeply stupid

i would want to get a brain scan if i were naive enough to believe that simpson and hilton are smart businesswomen, that really truly borders on the pathetic

7. Of course it's fake..
... who would have thought otherwise? But glimpses of Hilton and especially her malignant sidekick show through anyway.

Yukkies.

9. Anyone who watches that show for two minutes understands it's all set up
I agree with Ms. Hilton. She's playing a character for the public. Everytime someone trashes her, you can see the faint outlines of the four fingers pointing back at themselves.

10. If anybody needed Paris Hilton to tell them
that reality TV is fake, that person needs to be immediately purged from the gene pool by any means handy.

11. I agree with that. They are all imitating Dolly Parton as their role model
Attractive, bubbly singer who incidentally was one of the best country songwriters ever and who manages a multi-million dollar business portfolio. On stage, she's a sweet little airhead. No way she did all she did if she were really an airhead, though. I think a lot of "dumb blondes" watched her strategy and adopted it.

Dolly Parton was once asked if she minded being called a "dumb blonde." She said, "Not at all, because I know I'm not dumb, and I know I'm not a blonde."

Hilton, Simpson, Pamela Anderson... they all took note.

13. Like her so called personality?
The show of course is fake. All "Reality" TV shows are scripted and written. Scripted and written BADLY.
