I'm not nearly as far gone as I thought I was!!! |
|
lemme set the stage- full moon. hot. humid. a threeannahalf year old purebred lab who's just now weaned four fat puppies. she's bored. she's been inside all day. she wants ME to take her out for an evening stroll. so she sez.
okey dokey.
we get outside and i barely get the leash on her before she's off like a shot. stroll, hell. she wants to RUN. screw this tree-sniffing routine we usually stick to! so we quick march the long way 'round the neighborhood. TWICE.
i forgot to mention- i'm fifty one, i have one steel knee, two collapsing ankles and another knee that's crumbling into dust, and due to the fact i haven't done a day's real work in eight years i have about fifty spare pounds on me.
but i dood it. twice around the 'hood at full speed. oh, sure, i broke out into a sweat. sure, my heart started pumping a bit. but ya know something? IT FELT GOOD. i can still DO IT. my heart slowed back to normal within three minutes, and my legs don't even hurt a little bit! i'm not ready for the nursing home just yet!
'scuse me. i'm gonna go see if puppy girl is too tired to take another tour of the neighbor's yards.
:P
even though i know tomorrow morning i am gonna PAY.....

1. Sounds to me like you're lucky to be alive |
|
That sort of exertion can be dangerous!
Glad you made it. Enjoy tomorrow. That pain is going to be utterly sublime.

3. At a certain point you find out |
|
1. how much you enjoy doing something and 2. is it worth the next few days of misery
(as someone who was in a similar position - but with chronic illness - I decided which things I would gladly pay for a few days afterwards).
Glad you feel good (for now)! :hi:

5. I've got a Golden, weaned her pups 6 weeks ago. |
|
It's so hot & humid here, she wilts after half a block! I'm off chemo 2 months now, and neither one of us is getting any exercise! How can we blondes (I'm exaggerating now) get back into shape?

6. My hound puppy has taken agility classes almost her whole life |
|
She's STRONG, and she loves to run.
Try taking her swimming- labs naturally love the water!
