1. No.
We need something younger, faster, stronger, and smarter.

5. You may be correct
But that's the team we would put out in two years, for sure. Fortunately we have four to work with. And that's forever in terms of what can change and who can develop in the interim. 2006 proves that the so-called un precedented USA depth was about as deep as my gutters.

2. i think it will take some sort of revolutionary campaign...
to get the US top athletes to actually play soccer for us to compete at the top levels of the world cup.

3. Anything but 4-5-1, please.
How about:

Johnson-Casey-Donovan

Beasley-*somebody'sgottastepup*-Dempsey

*somebody*-Onyewu-Conrad-Stevie C.

Timmy

With the attacking talent and pace the Americans have right now, why not play 4-3-3 and actually use it?

4. then disappear for the next 4 years
like Landon Donovan in has done his last 17 international matches! Seriously, if he's the best we have to offer, US soccer is in serious trouble.

6. In Landon's defense
The dude is seriously misused on the national team. Hope the new coach fixes that. And my bad--Eddie Johnson will start over Casey, there is no question, unless something dramatic happens

8. Forget someone?

Freddy Adu. He'll be 21 in 2010, old enough to make an impact on the world stage, if he's as good as people are hoping

9. Still here
There's 4 years to find a team roster that will give that group in 2010 what for.

10. You'll need two strikers
And somebody actually capable of running a midfield.

If this World Cup proved anything, it was that the hype surrounding Landon Donovan was just that. Put him next to any of the world class midfielders and he looks like a high school player with moderate skills, but little in the way of vision. Put him next to a Francesco Totti, a Zidane, a Ballack...hell, put him next to Michael Essien, whatever. He's not playing the same game.

11. Absolutely.
People forget that it wasn't too long ago England failed to qualify at all. France fell flat four years ago, and look how far they got this year. One World Cup disaster doesn't mean we're done for.

The football world, which is especially fatalistic in the first place, loves to pile it on the Americans. I still think our future is bright.

I do agree that we need a new coach and that we need more players in European clubs though.

13. Have you guys considered Frankie Simek?
Edited on Tue Jul-11-06 12:33 PM by Thankfully_in_Britai
American-born right back for Sheffield Wednesday. He's quite a good player you know! And we used to have John Harkes playing for us in the same position.

And while we are on the subject, the Premier league starts in a few weeks. If anyone else is interested in starting up a DU fantasy premier league please drop me a PM and I'll see if I can get something set up.

17. Not yet anyway.
US Federation Pres. still says they haven't even started talking with Arena yet. Two weeks he says before anything shakes down.
