10. our friends in California

we just returned from a vacation in Morro Bay CA

spent about 10 days with friends. They always had a cat or two around the house, but not for the past 8-9 years.

Dick is still recovering from an illness he suffered back in october. he was in a diabetic coma for about two weeks, and had to have some surgery on his legs to restore blood flow. he didn't even know he was diabetic at the onset.

he's retired, his wife is a 1st grade teacher. he's slowly getting better, but we could tell he's still having problems dealing with his limitations. A couple of months ago we had suggested he get a kitty for company. Right now his wife is home for the summer, but by next month she'll be busy getting her classroom ready/setting up the curriculum for the new school year and Dick will be home alone.

On the saturday before we left - we went to a cat adoption event at a local petco, put on on by Feline Network - with the caveate that they were "just looking"

they came home with 2 cats. You could tell immediately it has made a positive effect on Dick.

because the cats were a bit spooked by their new home, our friends set up the litter box, beds, toys, food/water in their large downstairs bathroom. They left the door cracked so the new cats could come out if/when they wanted. Dick spent alot of time Saturday night "just checking to make sure they were ok"...

He wasn't really mad when I took the pic, but I've noticed his breed (Silver Persians) tend to look really sad or angry in pics, particularly when their eyes glare from the flash. I may just send the pic in. :rofl:
