I have finally accepted the reason the turtle is my favorite animal.
It can hide so easily and so quickly. When someone first posited that this was why I liked that beast so much, I dismissed the idea. Now, today, it rings with truth.

I wrote this in a journal entry today: "what can i do? where can i turn? i don't know, but i can learn... hide, hide, hide!"

After writing that, I realized, they were right on the money. I hope it's not a bad thing... wanting to hide.

So, fellow Lounge Lizards, please tell me... what's your favorite animal, and why?

1. turtles
are my favorite animal too; clams can hide fairly well also, but are kind of boring.

6. Turtles aren't really slow
They can swim fast, and some are fast on land. But they are steady and irrepresible. Watch a turtle trying to climb an obstacle. It will almost never go around. It will try and try until it makes it. And turtles live long, long lives. Some of the larger ones live over a hundred years, some maybe 200. That's a lot of time to be stubborn and steadfast.

Plus, they're bald. Bald is cool!

NCAA women's basketball champs 2006, NCAA men's champ 2002.

Clearly, the team you should be rooting for.

17. yes
but that may come as a relief to the turtle, really... we don't know what kind of troubles he's had or what he might be going through... so maybe he's really sitting there waiting for a nice, big truck

32. Box Turtles are surprisingly tough...
Our first Box Turtle was a rescue of sorts, found him on the side of the road upside down, on of the frills on his shell was destroyed, but other than that, he was fine, I think he suffered a "glancing" hit with the tire of a car that knocked him to the side of the road. We nursed him back to health(he was a little underweight), and also sanded down the sharp edges of the broken frill so he didn't cut his neck on it. Then we let him go.

Another time our dog in the backyard was going crazy, tossing what looked like a rock up in the air and catching it, so I went out there and had to wrestle a box turtle out of his mouth. The thing of it is this, the top of the turtles shell has its scales sheared off. We sent her to the vet, and the vet said she was hit with a lawnmower, apparently hid in her shell, and the scales were scraped off by the blade. She was also a little underweight, so a regimen of high fatty meats, especially beef, were in order, soon enough she regained strength, and we debated whether to let her go. Box Turtles rely on the camoflage of their shells as much as the shells themselves for survival, but this one has a big white spot where bone is exposed, which makes her stand out. The Vet said that health wise, it didn't really matter, but survival wise it was a cause for concern. We ultimately had the decision made for us, for during an outing outside, she disappeared, we have no clue where she went, but her camoflage was enough to fool us, even with the exposed bone, so we figured she's fine.

14. One Halloween
many years ago we were supposed to wear a costume to the bar/restaurant where I worked. I dressed as a turtle - made a shell out of fiberglass, got white baggy painters pants and dyed them green and green turtleneck shirt (natch), made some claw-like feet out of sections of plastic buckets, and had my head shaved at the time. I had to throw a drunken guy out of the bar that night and the guy said it was the first time he had been thrown out of a bar by a turtle (and no doubt the last).

38. I went one time as a house fly
baggy black dress with crotch swen to make into a jumpsuit thing, stuffed with blown up balloons, extra set of legs (coathanger/cloth), antenna and big white hatched eyes on my face. Was bored and came up with it in a few minutes. Made the drunks look twice or 3 times trying to figure out why there was a 5'6" fly in the bar.

His name is Gamera. He's from the Japanese Godzilla movies. He can fly. I seem to recall that he could take off like a helicopter, withdraw his head, tail and head and start spinning and flames would come out of the holes. How cool is that?

Sounds like you might need a

This is the updated Gamera. Google his name for lots of cool pics.
