My video Ipod should be here by Saturday |
|
Does anyone in here have one? What can I expect? Is it hard to convert video files to something that can be played on the Ipod?

I like it. It's not hard to play video files on it.
My only complaint is that mine sometimes turns itself on while in my bag, even with the lock function on. This is apparently not an uncommon issue. Since I mainly use it in my car I got a car charger for it and that downgraded the issue to a really minor inconvenience.
Make sure to get something to protect it, they scratch very easily.

mine is all scratched up and that diminishes the video experience somewhat. It also seems to scratch on contact with air molecules so a cover is REALLY important.
Converting home video is easy in iMovie (select export, and iPod and it will create the proper file). Tell iTunes to automatically update video from your Movies folder.
It seems to take FOREVER for it to load the first time if you have a lot of music. I only have USB1.0 so the transfer rate is slow. It took 4+ hours to get everything transferred the first time. I assume it's faster in USB 2.0 or Firewire.
If you want to convert DVDs, there are freeware options that work very well.
