Poll question: Women of DU -- Here is a poll about PURSES
Whatever you call it - purse, handbag, pocketbook - do you carry one?

And I'm actually curious about purses + orientation.

So if you don't mind . . .

Do you carry a purse?

1. I am a major bag *****
I love handbags, cheap ones, expensive ones. I think because I'm not a big fan of shoes, nor clothes.

5. I'm was always looking for the perfect "fanny pack." I don't wear
it around my waist; when I have too much to fit into my pockets, I carry it by the strap in my hand. I guess that would be an "other. . . "

I bought around ten of 'em, and the end of the search was when I found the best one, a big one, fake leather, at the swap meet at Golden West College in Huntington Beach. For ten bucknards. Who says you can't go home again? ;)

7. I'm a Vera Bradley addict.
I LOVE her purses. All those pockets!! Makes a disorganized sop like me feel like the queen of the world!

Unfortunately, they aren't cheap and the teenager has taken a liking to them as well.

10. Ah. Teenagers.
They're expensive, aren't they? We just had my 15-yr-old nephew here for two weeks. I swear I have never seen anyone put food away like that . . . :wow:

2. for work I carry two
I work 12 hour shifts at night so I have my regular purse with the usual - wallet, glasses, tylenol, mints, visine, etc...plus my "overnight bag" - snacks, bottles of water, sweater, etc.

4. I keep my junk in a backpack
I have a little black designer purse for dress-up stuff, and a hemp one for when I don't want to lug the backpack, but I hardly use either.

6. I love my purse (s) ROFL
Have often thought it silly to carry all one's makeup in one's purse (as I have several GFs that do!), but then I realized...Shoot! I carry many "important" things, too....just not makeup (once the makeup is on, it's done ;) )

Anyway...point is, I love my purse(s, and there are many things important to me that I like to have with me...things beyond just ID and money :D

Hey BK...never thought of purses as gender orientation thing.

Meanwhile..will you be carrying one to your interview? If you don't usually carry one, get one that fits the things you may want to have with you, (other papers, reference letters, personal/business cards, phone, etc.)

Good luck on that upcoming job interview! :hi:

8. I am super-bag ho and it carries to even my wallets.
Like, I'm currently a metallic-pale gold hobo bag with gold and rhinestone studs on the strap so I got a matching wallet, a gold with distressed metallic-edging and gold metal detail wallet, to replace the brown wallet I had with my Michael Kors brown kind of "doctor bag"- looking purse. I always like my bag to match my wallet to match my shoes if I can help it. And my closet is full of handbags. And shoes.

15. I have no idea who made it, but I got it at a local flea market.
It's really cute, in black patent leather with silver retaining clips on the corners, a traditional dome lid and handle.

I want to replace it, and I may have to custom make it.

I'm so goth it's sad.

to carry all my "stuff" in. Besides, if I am ever marooned on an island, I will at least have a cigarette lighter to start some signal fires with.:headbang:

16. My dear bertha!
I carry a purse.....just one!

I like to have all my stuff in one place, and I absolutely hate having to change purses....

So I have one......

But it's a good one, and goes with everything!

It's a Coach bag, from a number of years ago, when those were still worth something....

Entirely leather......

Sturdy strap....

Secure latch....

And at the time I got it, it was the biggest bag they made that wasn't a briefcase!

I LOVE it! :bounce: :bounce:

18. I've always hated carrying anything...
Edited on Tue Jul-11-06 11:54 PM by Zookeeper
I like to keep my hands free. I sometimes carry a small bag with a long strap that I can sling across my chest just to hold my cell phone and wallet. In the winter I stuff them in my coat pockets.

There is no way I could actually carry a handbag, I would feel burdened.

If I want to haul a sketchbook, pencils and paints, I use a backpack.

But, I've definitely gotten weird looks in the past for not carrying a purse. Women are the official schleppers in most societies, so if you're not schlepping something...well, it just looks suspicious. ;-)

Edited for typo.

19. Handbags are in my past
I've gone from toting around a handbag containing every conceivable item I'd need throughout a day to carrying one credit card, a bank card and a DL tucked into a front pocket on my jeans. I've gone from being citified to countrified. I wear a dress and heals only when absolutely necessary and shop as infrequently as I can get away with. However, I can still spot a sale at a 1000 paces and can access my bank card more quickly now than I could when sporting a swollen purse.
Yes, retirement sits fine with me.

21. Always carry my purse
I love my purse, I can conquer the world with some of the crap I carry in it.

I have quite a few purses as I like them to match my shoes, of which I also have quite a few.

I have address book, makeup case, cell phone, sunglasses, reading glasses, wallet, umbrella, key chain, cigarettes and lighter. Actually, it weighs down my shoulder.

yours...:-)

And, since I've run out of room in my purse, I find that I'm doing the same thing with my car...

Except for the cigarettes and lighter. :) I have always carried a big purse and wouldn't know what to do with a small one.

And I really need to clean it out, since it weighs a ton, and things are always falling out, but I tend to save things, just in case I might need them.

BTW, I'm straight.:-)

26. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy other. LOL
When I am in the mood or feel I really need to carry a purse I don't. LOL I actually have this handbag which is more like a backpack, but is a handbag. That is what I use.

Most of the time though you won't see me carrying one. I find them to be more of a hindrance than anything.

And for the record (LOL) I am a femme lesbian. ;)

27. I do.
It's some kind of psychological crutch for me, because if I go somewhere without one, I don't feel right. I used to carry small ones, but the older I get, the more I like roomier ones with lots of pockets.

28. Unless it's a special occasion I use a mini-backpack
I've got dozens of purses that I can coordinate with my outfit if I'm going somewhere special but for everyday use I use a mini backpack because it's easy to carry plus it can hold a book and/or a cd player, my wallet, my glasses, and all my other "essentials."

30. The junk I can't fit into my purse
is in the back seat of my car. I know my left shoulder has to be slightly lower than the right thanks to 40 plus years of lugging a shoulder purse.
