Why are chitterlings called chitlins when the spelling says otherwise? |

Was it originally chitterlings and then got shortened, or was it originally chitlins, but someone decided to make the word bigger?

1. 'Cause the poor Southerners who eat chitlins can't afford |
|
more letters. :P Chitlins are stinkier and not as tasty as haggis. :puke: 'Nuff said.

5. cos southerners like 3 syllable words to be 2 syllables and |
|
we like to draw out one syllable words FOREVAHHHH
It is so hot that our tongue stays so parched that it can not work in the manner of the typical northern tongue which is usually so cold that it clips the words as they march across the tongue :patriot:

chit·ter·lings also chit·lins or chit·lings ( P ) Pronunciation Key (chtlnz) pl.n.
The small intestines of pigs, especially when cooked and eaten as food.
From Middle English chiterling, probably diminutive of Old English *cieter, intestines.
