Project Runway
Well, well...There was a marathon on TV yesterday of Season 1, which I hadn't seen all of. So I sat and watched it, even though I had a ton of work to do. I work at home for my husband's company and just completely ignored the TODO list figuring I would work today..........BUT NO>>>>I had to watch season 2 today. All day, even watching it now. Even though I've seen it 8 million times. Even after I learned that Israel was invading Lebanon and there was a shit load of other breaking news.

What is the matter with me? I live in the middle of nowhere (central Maine) and have never worn a long dress in my life. I'm middle-aged with two teenagers and couldn't ever hope to become a designer. But I do sew and I think that ropes me into the show.

AND THEN SEASON THREE STARTS TONIGHT! God help me.

Any other addicts out there? And what do you love about the show?

2. LOVE it! I have not seen the early episodes of Season 1, but saw all of
Season 2...last night's special on the selection process was really interesting...did you catch that??

When I first heard about it from a co-worker, I thought it sounded SO lame, but the first episode I watched, I was HOOKED! And so was hubby and our daughter...it's our Wednesday night bonding experience!

Daughter and I also both love Miami Ink (new season starts next week) but hubby is not so much into that...I think he's just jealous *lol* since he has none yet...and he keeps telling me I can't have any more until he gets one...so he'd better hurry up and get one, since I have about 3 more planned at the moment, and sure I will think of more!

4. I understand the bonding experience
as not only am I hooked but so is the teenage daughter because of the fashion and the teenage son who loves Heidi and the models. It is truly a great show to watch with your older kids.
I didn't catch last night's selection process, but I am sure it will be on again....Thanks so much for the heads up!

42. I know what you mean
I'm not a big fashion person so the concept of the show seemed lame to me. But I caught an early episode in the first season and I've been hooked ever since. But it's hard to explain to people what a great show it is. It's almost like they have to "discover" it for themselves.

46. Have you seen the new one, "Junk Guys" I think it's called, on HGTV?
Where the two guys haul away 'trashed' items at the curb, take them home and re-make them, and then they bring them back to where they got them, ring the bell and hide while they watch the owners come out and discover their 'new' stuff??

I thik that one has great potential!

50. I think it's 10 central time on Wednesdays, if I remember right...on HGTV
First episode they remade an old dresser into a WAY cool kitchen island, and also an old electric stove was gutted and turned into a barbecue grill! They painted it black with red and yellow flames up the sides, and put it on wheels, and the last thing you saw on the show was the two guys to whom it had been returned, one on top of it and the other pushing him down the street on the thing!
It was pretty funny.

I love remaking what others consider 'junk' so I am eager to see it again.

9. TOO FUNNY!
I think that is one of the reasons why I love the show so much. IN my 20's I worked at a restaurant and bar which employed a lot of gay men. They were hands down the best group of people I ever worked with. I still to this day miss their companionship. Now in central Maine, there is not much of a visble gay base. I so totally miss that interaction.

12. I can't wait for tonight's premier of season 3.
I watched the casting episode last night. It looks like it's going to be an interesting group. I enjoyed the casting show much better than last year. There was less footage of the rejects, which I hate to watch. The "where are they now" snippets of past designers was a good addition.

51. I'm in!
Did you watch the "Road to the Runway" show before the season premier? They showed clips of the contestants being interviewed initially for the show. Chloe was a guest judge in Miami and was totally responsible for getting coffee filter guy (Michael?) to the next level. So I'm not surprised they'd have somewhat similar aesthetics.

26. I got addicted last season
Bravo replayed the shows back to back late at night. I'm an insomniac and so I'm often up at strange times cooking and doing chores.
I watched last night...didn't agree with the winner. I would have voted for the tall redhead who designed the coat with the "fur" collar and cuffs and the dripping spangles OR the dress with the red bows at the back - that was a cool dress.
Should be a good season.

29. He's from Atlanta
(where I live) so I'm cheering him on. They have such a diverse group this time. I would have voted off the guy...Shawn/Sean?...the guy with the tattoos on his neck. His dress was messy and silly. I didn't have that big a problem with the young woman who got voted off. Stacy? She had the white, billowy sheer dress with the little shorts underneath. I thought the judges were too harsh on her design. And not harsh enough on that muddled outfit the punk guy threw together.

30. Well it's not like they don't know who he is
I think that they were just putting him in his place and giving him a wake up call. I already don't like him and that is specifically tied to how he looks. I know that is superficial but he irritates me.

32. I don't mind how he looks
I think some of the designers are more theatrical and want to stand out from the crowd - and he fits in that group. I just was not impressed at all with his first effort. He would have been my choice for an early exit.
And the designer who won the challenge...not my first choice, either.
but, that's the fun of the show.

37. i totally agree, i also liked the design from the guy with the accent
Marlan? the jury is out for me on his personality but i did like what he was going for. I think Tim Gunn was right when he said to the guy that won that the bed sheet was really like a fabric so he really wasn't being all that innovative, also i think the top of that dress was ill fitting. Like i know what i'm talking about---not, but i know what i like.

31. The best thing I loved about last night's episode **spoilers**
Is after these people tore apart every last inch of their apartments for the challenged - they got back to the room and nothing was replaced. I had a good laugh over that one since some people just grabbed everything in order to not allow someone else to take it. One poor guy had nothing but just the exposed springs left of his mattress.

I too thought the coffee filter dress was the best, with that blue coat coming in a close second. I was sad to see who they cut - he looked like he would be interesting on the show and lets face it - that hat was UGLY (and it was bullshit that the guy had questioned about whether or not to use the hat - he was proud of it)

33. A young woman...Stacy?
was the one cut. The punkish looking guy squeaked through - though I thought his dress was messy. The woman who got cut had the long, white billowy sheer dress with the little shorts underneath. They trashed her design - unfairly, I think. It wasn't the worst.
Loved the tall redhead's coat and the dress with the red bows at the back.
This is going to be an interesting group. Watch it with me next week - we'll compare notes as we watch.

I loved that dress - she did not deserve to be cut. I think secretly I just wanted the other guy to be cut but perhaps they felt he would be a bit of a character worth keeping around for a few weeks. I swear sometimes they keep the really bad designs around just because they're the type of person who will draw an audience in to watch their antics. It's the only explanation of how Santino survived week after week

35. Agree, Lynne
Santino had clothes that were literally falling apart. And his designs weren't strong enough to sustain that kind of lack of execution.
Clearly, it was the "reality show" factor of keeping on a controversial player. The more competent designers on that particular season were rather reserved and polite - Chloe and Daniel - so having Santino there increased the drama.
I wonder if some of these people really would behave as badly without encouragement - it's as though the "villians" are being coached on how to amp up the tension.

38. A little something I noticed for the first time last season...
is the disclaimer at the very end of the credits.

It was after the episode that Santino was NOT kicked off for his truly hideous Leeder-lingerie -- I sat there thinking, 'What the FUCK?!?!?!' And then I caught the part of the disclaimer that says the judges aren't the only ones who have a say in who stays or who goes -- the PRODUCERS have input. You know, the ones who are interested only in making "good" TV and not good fashion???

Santino (and the kookie old coot with the basket hat last night) make "good" TV, not neccessarily good fashion.

I have watched PR since the first episode -- I love it -- but I came close to turning it off for good when I saw decisions that were clearly about needing a "colorful" character to stay instead of a more talented one.

47. Daniel Franco
how about last year when Santino was kept over Daniel Franco? Don't get me wrong. Daniel had very little chance to win and according to Tim Gunn, a little of him went a very long way but there was no way Santino deserved to stay over him that week.

FWIW, all reality tv shows have that "the producers have the final say" disclaimer.

however i am thoroughly addicted to this show.

and this season promises to be hot -- hot -- hot.

i thought one of the right two one the first night.

his execution was flawless -- and the dress really was very pretty.

but there was the barbi designer who had done something similar -- and i loved his as well.

those are the two i would have picked to win.

i will say this -- the guy who won the first night seems to be a prick.
