5. I'm a HUGE Bowie fan from way back..
Edited on Wed Jul-12-06 07:01 PM by sendero
... but no way could I answer all these questions. I'll give edumukated guesses :)

1 - I like Earl Slick and Carlos Alomar and my favorite was some bit parts played by Ricky Gardiner on Low.

2 - Queen, no question about that one.

3 - Starman. Beautiful song.

4 - China Girl, only because I love Iggy Pop even more

5 - I haven't heard all of them, but probably the Nirvana cover. Captured the song very well.

6 - Haven't seen all of those films either, but I'm partial to The Man Who Fell to Earth

7 - Somehow, I never managed to see him in concert. I think I'll cry now :)

8 - Most folks are going to go with Ziggy, I'll pick the Thin White Duke because he made his best recordings in that time frame.

9 - ????

10 - That one is easy, Low.

on edit: after reading Spider's post below, I'd add Robert Fripp (for Heroes) to number 1. How could I forget that? :)

9. Good additions ot the choices!
Edited on Thu Jul-13-06 08:46 AM by Ramsey
Somehow I forgot about Robert Fripp and Mick Ronson- silly me. Although I don't think Mick was such a great guitarist per se. Also, lots of folks seem to love Hunky Dory, although it's never been high on my list of favorite albums, so I didn't think to put it on. And apparently none of you are fanatical enough to hang out at Bowie websites!

I'm a fan that's into Bowie's classic work as well as his most recent work, so my tastes run a little eclectic compared to the typical Bowie fan from the Ziggy/Diamond Dog days. So my answers:
1. Stevie Ray
2. Hurt
3. Hallo Spaceboy
4. China Girl (this song was written by Bowie and Iggy Pop, but was recorded first by Iggy, so maybe it's not a cover in the classic sense)
5. Ziggy Stardust - Bauhaus
6. I'm torn on this one, because I think Bowie was brilliant in Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, but the film is rather dark and thus doesn't inspire repeated viewings. And TMWFTE is such a fantastic cult film, but a little offbeat. I LOVE The Hunger, and can watch it over and over, so I may have to pick John Blaylock. Bowie was the perfect vampire.
7. I am going to say Earthling only because I got to see about 15 shows on that tour. I never saw any of the classic early tours. The Earthling Tour was a totally rocking show!

8. I am partial to Bowie's recent (late 90's to today) Fashionista look. I especially liked his Alexander McQueen Union Jack coat that he wore on the album cover for Earthling and throughout that tour. Bowie has worn versions of the Union Jack throughout his career, but that was the best version IMHO!! These days he always looks so young and vibrant and so eclectic yet glamorous.

9. The best Bowie website sued to be Teenage Wildlife, webmastered by my good friend Evan Torrie, and it still has a great archive, but it has been a cobweb for new content for about 3 years. So the best site currently is Bowie's own BowieNet, although it is proprietary and requires a small monthly fee to access content.

10. My favorite album, controversially, is 1. Outside. I think it's brilliant, totally underrated and sleekly modern. This is closely followed by Ziggy, Scary Monsters, Low and Diamond Dogs.

I only realized this because I was listening to a pre-FM recording of the "Sound and Vision" broadcast from Milton Keynes in 1990 today.
