of course, in the sense that one clicks on threads, but also in the sense that, like in everything where people are involved, some people click and some people don't.

If you bring a large group of people together, some will be compatible and some will not. Some will have personalities and senses of humor that will attract each other and some won't.

I doubt there is very much deliberate exclusion of others (even given the existence of the ignore function). It's more like if you go to a large party, there will probably be people that you particularly enjoy talking to and others you don't particularly notice.
