Good Thursday Morning, Crew!

:hi::donut:
Welcome to the Thursday edition of the Early Morning Crew thread! :bounce: How are you today, everybody? I hope you made it over the Hump Day without any glitches! I'm doing just fine, thank you! Still trying to wake up fully, but I have coffee in hand and I'm sure it'll help.

Greekspeak and his father stopped for the night in Springfield, Illinois on their big trip last night! He's really enjoying it so far! I just wish I were there with him! I hate being apart from him like this...I don't sleep very well. But I'm glad he's having a good time! :bounce:

Not too much going on with me...the big clearance sale continues all this month at my store, so I stay busy there.

So, let's get this day started, my crew! Two work shifts left until the weekend is upon us! :bounce: It's time to rise and shine!

28. No, the photo thing is still in progress...
I don't have enough photos to complete it, so I'm collecting as we go. Every time there is a "Photo Thread" I go through it to see if anyone posts theirs that I don't have.

No on the house also. We're in a holding pattern right now on the house purchase. I want to get all my ducks in a row before I take on all that debt, you know?

I'll be packin' Hoochie Mamas for my trip with Miss Honeychurch so you'll see them up close and personal.
Sugar Smack defined them as 'looking like you're ready to step on the dance floor at any moment'.
I just see my normal wardrobe in rayon or lightweight cottons and silks instead of the heaver fabrics I usually wear in the north.

Sounds like a nice lunch you had. I haven't had Nuetella in ages! I'm tired this morning. But then I think I'm living my life back wards. Went out Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights. Last night was a break, but I'm supposed to meet friends at the Blues Club tonight. I just may bow out. Should be staying home to get some rest. No plans yet for the weekend though. 106. Looks good!
:9 Perfect for lunch. :bounce:

Yep, there's stuff going on. But we have to make sure the paperwork is right so we have something to fall back on if they don't build it right. And I am sure they'll build it according to specs. This is the time to be really picky about the specs, for sure! I'm even putting it right in the contract what side to put the washing machine on. We flipped the original plans, which is just a mirror image of the originals, so the washing machine ended up on the right side of the dryer ... that's a problem since they both open to the side and are designed for the washer to go on the left. In our last house, we caught that they had done it wrong, but it was too late and the contract didn't specify, so we had to live with it. x( Harleydad said last night, "You're really going to be pissed if they get that wrong, aren't you?"

it is the best to try to eliminate as much mistakes from the beginning. Are you going to supervise once they started building? Like complaining the whole time that it ought be different, making new plans as it goes? :D

115. He sure does!
I only groused about it for 12 years, after all, and it's the first thing I noticed when the new plans came.

Making new plans as it goes costs more money. That's why we're being so picky now. But I surely am going to supervise! If they get paint on my floor or something, they're going to have to clean it up! This builder uses a lot of contractors that have worked for them for a LONG time (30 years or so), instead of anyone who shows up with a hammer. That should be an improvement over the last one. :D

So how are things going with you? Got any plans this weekend?

I live vicariously through my roomie's pets. The bird likes to chirp/sing and fly around the house, and the cat is fun to play with and pet. The chinchilla, when she's awake, is fun to watch when she runs in her wheel and sprints around her cage a-la "Ricochet Rabbit".

73. Quick head count, 18 developers
We keep all the source code in a single directory on the network, which everybody works on.

Seriously. You can't actually come up with a more boneheaded way of working.

When code gets released into live, the source code at least gets copied into another directory that we only have read access to, but still.

Sort of ... we actually made separate directories for different "versions". And there were only two of us and the other guy did more managing than programming. I have to agree with you -- it's completely boneheaded. Especially with 18 developers! Yikes!

At my job before that, it took an act of congress to get a change in because the version control system was so tight. We had to go to weekly meetings and plead our case for a change, even if it was something the customers were screaming for. Of course, that meant that we "slammed in" a lot of other stuff whenever they let anything at all go in. Nothing's perfect.

89. I know...sigh
At my previous job they were paperwork happy. We were literally drowning in it. They even had a 'department' of three ladies whose whole job it was to manage our paperwork. "Project Office" they were called, but we renamed them to "Project Orifice," because it was the hole where all the paperwork went...

There are things that are really good about this company, but the IT department haven't a clue, and they really don't want to change. If I was working on an open source project in my spare time, I would manage it better than this...

I bet you would do a much better job at managing it. :bounce:

I also bet you could tell the #^&*! phone company how to program their billing so that a final bill is actually correct. From what I've seen, as a customer, a lot of places out there don't have a clue. They do things that are wrong or user-UNfriendly and they won't do anything about it. My credit union's bill paying program keeps getting "improved" and gets less usable with every "improvement". Even the CU employees agree! But it's still better than most of the individual companies' bill-paying pages. I bet you could fix every one of them in your sleep.

88. Two weeks isn't TOO bad.
I used to think it was FOREVER ... until harleydad left and we didn't even know when he'd be back. Three weeks was pretty long, though. I bet Greekspeak and his dad will have a great time in NYC! :bounce: We LOVED it there -- but we don't want to live there, just visit.

Yepper! We took a whole room full of furniture out in one day and put the new stuff in the next day. All with harleydad's back being bad! He sort of hurt it a little while he was moving the log pile on Sunday (hold the jokes -- he did move it one log at a time ). But we have a furniture dolly that made everything easier. The hard part will be getting the kids to come and pick it all up. They haven't built their house yet, so we have a bet on whose house gets done first. There's $.50 at stake! But I have the feeling we'll be storing it in our new basement.

So, I called the horse farm place last night. They want me to come over and meet them and teach me everything there is to know about taking care of horses. It's free because teaching me means making me do their chores. And they have two older horses that they want to retire from trail riding that they say would be perfect for our property. I could climb onto them bareback and walk around the property whenever I wanted to. They can't do hard riding anymore, but I wouldn't want that. I can't wait to meet them! :bounce:

and I'll give you a big hug. I know how empty the house is. I'm dreading this Sunday myself. I hope the time goes by fast for you.

Harleydad is VERY careful. But he worked all day on Friday, then got in the car and drove half the night, then sat in the car most of the day on Saturday when we went out with the kids. It just got his back too tired, but he didn't realize it until he started moving the logs. He stopped before he actually got immobilized.

Ouch! I bet you do get on your general manager! Funny thing about backs -- it's easy to forget about the injuries while they're not hurting.

Yes, I am thinking about getting a horse! And I don't know anything about them ... except that the lady told me I should get at least TWO of them. And when I told her I'm afraid of them a little, she said most people are. They are huge animals, after all! If/when I get one, I'll let you rid it. But nothing fancy, OK? Oh yeah, and they make property taxes go down around here. You can have a mansion and get taxed as agricultural if you have horses, cows, or goats (cats don't count).

She says horses are herd animals and don't like being alone. They'll even curl up and die from loneliness. The two she's retiring have been around each other for a long time and they like each other. So I suppose it would be especially cruel to separate them. I guess I'll have to learn twice as much now. ;) We have plenty of time to think about it and make sure we want to do this. As it is, we can't go anywhere because we don't have a cat sitter (the kids are too far away to come over twice/day). It will be even harder with horses!

Not only that, but we'd need a dog sitter too. So, going anywhere for any length of time would mean taking Tony and Bandit to a kennel, and I can't stand the thought of THAT. Well, then here you are with a decision to make...get two horses, or not.

Our kitties would just die ... they've never been and don't even like getting into their carriers! :scared: Our dog went on a hunger strike last time we took him to one. I can fly my brother in to take care of them for cheaper than having a professional pet sitter come to the house. But he leaves the house a mess and isn't always available. So we'll just get horses and stay home. That means you'll have to work at getting your pet sitter if you want to ride the horses. :D Don't they have lots of students there who could use a few extra dollars?

130. That's the dilemma.
At least professional pet sitters are bonded ... or you should get one who is. We had one in Boca, but we never had to use her. She had our house key and alarm code, but I felt perfectly comfortable with that once I met her and saw all her paperwork. The thing was that she charged extra for each kitty, even though it doesn't take a lot more work to fix four bowls of food than one. So that made it really expensive to have her come, considering that we feed them twice/day. I'm sure Tony has to go out at least that many times, so it can get expensive. I always prefer having someone stay at the house.

There might be some way to get references from the dean's office or something. Don't you have any neighbors? We used to have our neighbor's kids come over, until they got too big (ie: didn't need the money badly enough). I mean, you KNOW where they live if something is missing.

60. Good Tuesday Morning everyone, hope everyone is doing.............
....all right. We're almost at another weekend.:bounce:

We are working our way into a horrid heat spell that will last through the beginning of next week. Have I told you guys how much I detest the heat and add to that high humidity and we get a tad miserable around here. Yes, I have air conditioning and it will indeed be going full blast the next few days.

I made my way to the laundry-mat yesterday and after three long hot hours of work I had the clothes all clean. So at least I'll have clean clothes when it's so hot.

Take care everyone:grouphug: and keep hitting away at those clueless neocons. They truly don't get it do they??:spank:

65. Good Morning, Minnesota!

I like the heat, myself. Although, I'm glad to be able to get out of it and into the air conditioning once in a while!

64. Morning Clint
It's been awhile. :)

New job. I am the SAVE Director for the U of AZ's President's cabinet. Basically I - and my co-director- organize all the grassroots efforts to get students to register to vote etc. Pretty fun so far. Solid perks too. We get to go on an all expenses paid retreat next month. The location is secret, so it must be fun. :)

Just finished my first fiction work in a while. Getting set to send it off to a few different mags next month. We'll see how that goes. :)

:hi:
It HAS been a while! How've you been Mister? Your new job DOES sound fun actually! Good luck your story, Man! I've had lots of idea rolling around in my head for stories too, but I haven't put any of them down on paper. Maybe I should.

78. yes, just sit down
and start putting them all together. I actually start and not finish so many stories that I got into the habit of combining them. I will take two diverse stories and fit the ideas together, and it somehow works. So ideas can come out in the most interesting ways. Just sit down and do your thing. :)

118. Morning Clint!
Sad to hear that you're lonely, but remember, you were gone for quite sometime, and I'm sure Greekspeak was lonely for you. Anyway, you have us to keep you company.

We're headed into a heatwave. Today high 80s tomorrow 90s. I do like it hot, but I don't have a/c in my place. The upstairs gets pretty hot! But a fan takes care of it pretty well.

Hope your store sells out fast. But then you'll be working your bum off setting up new merchandise. An endless battle.

121. Good Morning, Miss SimplyF!
:hi::hug:
Yes, and I'm SO glad to have everyone here to keep me company too! :loveya: You don't have AC in your place? Holey moley, why not? I like it hot too, but it's good to be able to get out of it and into cool air once in a while.

Retail is ALWAYS an endless battle. Returns, returns, returns. Move it, move it, move it. Stock, stock, stock.

129. LOL that's funny!
Yes the retail cycle just keeps recycling.

I live in an old house, therefore no AC. I've got the whole place to myself, so I'm willing to make this concession. I think it's worth it. But thank god for my trusty fan!

Gotta be filling up my travel mug and heading to work. Wishing you a have great day.
