1. What is your favorite independent music label?
Relapse and slowly, The End

Mastodon. Well, they're not famous yet, but they will be. They might. I don't know. I just remember seeing them when there was like, 50 people there.

Post-rock. Now every smelly record-store clerk Explosions in the Sky/Mogwai/gy!be-wannabe is hopping on this train. Same with stoner.

6. Barenaked Ladies is the closest one. All my other favorite groups haven't become famous yet.

8. CD, but mp3 is fine for portability. I don't listen to anything that requires absolute perfection in its reproduction.

10. No, it's pining for the fjords.

8. Here we go then...

Probably Priory Records - specialists in organ and church music.

2. Which pedestrian musicians/artists to you enjoy purely out of irony?
I think that I'll have to go with Mozart.

3. which obscure recording do you possess that makes you different like everyone else?
A recording of Alles mit Gott a strophic aria by J.S. Bach which was only rediscovered last year.

4. What obscure musical instrument do you admire and/or collect?
Shawm, hurdy gurdy, and perhaps above all ondes Martinot

5. Is Simon Cowell the devil's spawn?
Who?

6. Who was your favorite band before they became famous?
Define famous - probably The Sixteen, but they're very famous now.

7. Digital recording- yea or nay?
It pains me to say so - yea. Mostly because it allows the far easier propogation of rarer music.

8. What is your preferred format (go ahead and say vinyl.)
M.P.3 - see above.

9. What musical subgenre was cool until everyone else discovered it?
Early music...they're even handing out knighthoods to Early Music conductors these days. :eyes:

10. is rock dead?
Rocks are usually dead, yes. Rock music - I've no idea.

9. My answers:
Edited on Thu Jul-13-06 12:01 PM by EOO
1. Four-way tie between Ipecac Recordings, Neurot Recordings, Dark Symphonies, and The End. Also as a major fan of Porcupine Tree, I've found that Burning Shed is one of the best internet mail-order / label services around.

2. Cant think of any off the top of my head.

3. Maudlin Of The Well - Bath, all three Steve Wilson Cover Version CDs.

4. The sitar (admire but yet to own one)

5. Fuck yes! (although not nearly as much as Dr. Phil, but I'll save that for a different topic)

6. Isis - I've been a fan of theirs for about 3 years now and they're not famous yet but after the upcoming tour with Tool, just about every poseur Tool fan will be scouring the music stores for copies of Oceanic and Panopticon.

7. Yea, how else can I carry a 400+ record collection around with me?

8. CD, dont own a record or cassette player anymore.

9. progessive death metal (ie Opeth, Nevermore, Dream Theater, etc)

10. To quote Frank Zappa - "Rock is not dead, it just smells funny."

21. I don't know that the Toolsheep will ride Isis' nuts just yet.
Turner's vocals are still too harsh and not "Perfect Circle-y" enough for them.

Saw them at the Grog Shop up close last May, WHAT a show. So I probably won't be spending $9,000 to see them from miles away at the Wolstein Cave in Cleveland.

If that's the case I definately wont be trekking up to Fresno to see them. But the concert will still kick ass - two of my favorites in one show.

I think they'll be around 40-50 though, which I think is too much considering the horrible view I'll most likely get.

24. Yeah, that's the main reason I hate Ticketbastard.
You pay $40 - $50 for tickets plus a $10 service charge plus a $4.50 "convenience charge" (whatever that is) plus a $2.50 "facility fee" (whatever that is) but then they stick you in generally the worst seats in the house.

26. Yet for a show like that, you'd have to get it from them
because you aren't going to be able to get it at the door, since it'll likely be sold out. That's where they know they can stick you.

18. Joneschick's daughter here...
Jared Leto is the devil. As a 16 year old girl, I am qualified to inform you that Jared Leto likes 16 year old girls. Also, 30 Seconds to Mars sounds like My Chemical Romance being sodomized by the Watered Down Pink Floyd, and I can't believe they used to be my favorite band.

That is all. *bows*
