Present/ former viola players: check in! |
|
I am of the firm belief that viola players are a unique breed of beings. I played viola for eight years (not particularly well, mind you) as did my best friend, and one of our other close friends. We're all quirky gals. I wanna know who else here plays/ed so I can assess if my characterization is accurate.

1. I started to have a go a couple of years ago, but was so offended |
|
by the alto clef that I started classical guitar instead.
I know advice is not what this thread is about, but do you have any advice for coping with the alto clef when one is accustomed to the treble and bass clefs?

4. No. But I can play "Smells Like Teen Spirit." |
|
I was only ever very familiar with alto clef, so it wasn't an issue.

5. The way that I conceive of the Alto clef. |
|
it to take the treble clef and stick it directly on top of the bass clef, cutting the top and bottom to make is a manageable size.

7. I'll dig out some sheet music when I get home |
|
and see if I can work that concept.
Thanks.

6. How long since you've played? |
|
I was thinking about my viola, because I caught a snip of the Brandenburg Concerto this morning, and it's fast become an earworm. We used to play it every year.

Thinking back, it would be between 10 and 15 years since I've played now. Golly, that makes me sound old :scared:

Viola and trombone. Both are odd instruments.

Wasn't terrible, don't let anyone tell you it's an easy instrument to play, lol. As an adult I've since purchased a violin and morphed to that. So I guess I can play both now. :hi:
