Poll question: Do you think this Cali Boy could handle a Massachusetts Winter? |
|
I'm born and reared in NorCal...with the coldest I've ever experienced was 3 years in Oregon where it snowed maybe 3 times the whole time.
I did live in Tahoe for two years, and it got cold - but nothing like Mass. The two times I've been there were both in Winter and although Boston is VERY pretty in the winter, it was FUCKING COLD!!!!!!!
I suppose I could buy LL Bean and Eddie Bauer jackets...

1. Go for the Eddie Bauer |
|
LL Bean is notoriously anti-choice; heiress Linda Bean is one of Maine's foremost wingnuts. :puke:

2. My dear Taverner........ |
|
I think you could manage it......
My daughter has lived there for 10 years now, and she says the winters aren't as bad as they used to be......
And of course, there is the cold weather clothing....
I'm sure you could do it.......
Whether you'd like it or not is another matter!

3. I have to warn you ... |
|
if you think the San Ramon Valley has a dearth of good restaurants, wait until you see the choices around the Franklin/-495 area.
Winter cold tolerance is something that builds gradually in the fall. Being dropped into it by plane is a shock to your poor NorCal attuned body. Besides, it's not just the temperature, it's the humidity. Works against you winter and summer. Winter air has more moisture there than in Tahoe and once it's cold it stays that way for longer periods. Summmer, the days can be unbearably humid and it doesn't cool off at night the way it does here.

Try MN or northern WI. Boston does not get cold; NYC does not get cold. Chilly, and sometimes freezing, but rarely actually cold. Certainly not FUCKING COLD.

5. you'll adjust, it might take a few years and you may not like it |
|
but you'll get used to it, plus you'll at least have the fall to look forward to, that was always my favorite season in NE.

7. My husband just moved to upstate NY |
|
from Napa. He is originally from LA, and thought SF was cold when he moved up north. He weathered this past winter OK. I won't lie, there were moments, and I finally got him to lose the down comforter just a couple of weeks ago. But, as I voted, it could be Nunuvut.
