I have to tell you guys a sweet story, LaraMN, pay attention, here baby. |
|
My friends Jen and Rich have a beautiful daughter, Nadilee Rose who has Down Syndrome. She is 10.
When she comes over to my house, which is pretty often because she is just such a delight, she always wants to type. So, I set her up on one of the computers (whichever one I'm not using for work, or the teenager isn't using to IM :eyes: and away she goes.
I bought her a Smith Corona Electronic Typewriter on Ebay and it came last night. (Remember those?)
You guys would have been weeping if you could see the pure, unadulterated joy in that little face when I brought it over to her. She had an absolutely ear to ear grin. We set it up and she started typing right away. She's very high functioning, reads and all, but more importantly, she is an absolute gift from God.
When my FIL died, (she loved him), she brought me a bear to put in his casket. She came to visit my husband in the hospital. She is, quite simply, the most beautiful human being I know.
Anyway, wanted to share. Because I love her so much.

1. What a sweet thing to do for her, Midlodem! |
|
Actually, today I took one of my kids in for a physical, and in the waiting room was a boy with Down's Syndrome. I'm guessing he was 3 or 4 and he was a delight because he was so full of laughter and joy, bouncing around the room. I felt happy just watching him.

that you are an extremely nice person.
Jeez, wish I had known, I have an old Olympia electric typewriter in my closet that hasn't been used in years.

That was a very nice gesture on your part to buy her the typewriter.

It's only money. The pure delight on her face was worth millions.
When I called her to tell her it was here, she said "Oh my stars".... She's a doll.

What a great story, Midlo! She sounds like a gal I'd love to meet! I can't wait to see what Jack's like at that age.

11. that is a great story |
|
a lesson for us "normal" folk: there is a great reward in the small things we can do to make each other happy. Her smile made your day. And it cost you very little in money, time and effort.
You're a beautiful person.
