Why are so many people fascinated with this stupid subject?

An aquaintance of mine, who has been known to drink too much, opened a bar in NC. When it became a huge success, he was visited by the local rag reporter one evening--after having a few vodka tonics. The reporter asked him how it was going, and he replied:

"Well, you know how it is when you open a public place: pretty soon the public shows up."

And there you have it. Skinner opened a public place, and sure the hell enough, the public showed up.

And now we have people asking if there are really, no really tell me the truth..are there really, really cliques in the Lounge?

Shut the fuck up, of course there are.

If you aren't in one, who gives a flying rat's ass? It's cyberspace for Christ's sake. Make up some identity that people will be attracted to and start posting.

5. I was just wondering why

a new "clique" thread was necessary. They always end up being divisive and petty, and in the end, nothing is accomplished other than the airing of stupid personal squabbles.

Did you complain on the other clique threads? I didn't bother to look.

As far as this one is concerned...it's a result of what I have seen on DU over the past 5 years. I am tired of DUers denying the existence of cliques on this forum--- they are definetly there, and a couple of them have been nasty as hell.

I guess the "joke" threads about cliques are alright, but when someone finally says "of course they are here" that somehow becomes divisive.

DU has been divisive since week 1. I doubt this thread is going to do any harm.

Sure there are cliques in the Lounge. There are cliques EVERYWHERE. My school, my parents' business, everywhere. Why should cyberspace be any different?

In fact, I think there are many cliques here, perhaps not consciously, but most certainly on a subconscious level. Fess up, Loungers: there most certainly are some Loungers you talk to more than others, some people to whose threads you run automatically, and some people you either incidentally or purposefully "tune out," maybe because they annoy you, maybe because you just don't like them.
