She was there for surgery on her spine. It was around this time of the year. My dad came to visit for the 4th of July. Me and some of the other kids were out on the balcony of the hospital watching the fireworks being set off in some of the Chicago neighborhoods. My dad asked Lina, the girl from Lebanon, what she thought of the fireworks and she said "it reminds me of home."

Being a kid, I never thought about what it was like to live in a war zone. She grew up in it.

Now seeing what is happening over there. I hope she is ok and doing well. She was from Beirut.

2. She was a sweet girl...
She had a wonderful smile.

She was trying to get a Visa at the time to come and study in America.

In Lebanon Handicap people are treated like animals.

3. How awful..........
To be treated like an animal.......

That is just so wrong!

For all the problems and things wrong with our country, we still manage to get a lot of things right...

4. I have experienced discrimination due to my chair...
But in her country Handicapped people are kept at home. There are no curb cuts, ramps, or other devices to assist them. I don't know how it is now, but that was how it was in 1988.
