http://www.katu.com/stories/87601.htmlSCIO, Ore. - A rooster that became a local fixture in the town of Scio has been killed by a dog.
Big Red brought national attention to the Willamette Valley town after he arrived in 1998 as a hitchhiker in the back of a pickup truck.
The rooster, a Rhode Island Red, made a home for himself at a feed store warehouse - where he crowed to be let out every morning at 8:00.
He would pause on the warehouse steps before heading across the street and down an alley to a grocery, where he waited for a cinnamon roll and a small bowl of water.

This rooster apparently had his own line of towels and breath mints. He used the crosswalks in town on his daily journey through the small city of Scio. When a dog attacked him last month, the feed store cat fought off his attacker. This time, he wasn't so lucky - another dog attacked, severely wounding him. According to the news last night, the wounded rooster made his way across the street (using the crosswalk?) and collapsed and died in front of the town's veterinarian office.
A memorial service will be held next week (I shit you not, they are expecting mourners from around the world).
