Sometimes things turn out better than you expect

I thought my dad might die yesterday. I found out he was in the hospital having surgery. That in itself is a big risk for him - he has a very bad heart. My mom said he was still in recovery and she'd leave a message on my machine as soon as she knew anything.

I didn't listen to my messages last night. I was exhausted, and just couldn't face any bad news. I listened early this morning - no messages. It took me a couple of hours to get through to my mom, which didn't strike me as a positive sign.

I finally reached my mom from work this morning. My dad was A. alive and B. his leg hadn't been amputated.

I went to see him this afternoon, and he looked better than I've seen in a long time. He was actually quite chipper.

Good news, but it's been a rough week.
