Just what is the appeal of MySpace.com?
How can this website be so popular? I've been to that website a few times and I have found it to be annoying, needlessly flashy and hard to navigate my way around. Also, I get very annoyed by websites that start playing music as soon as you download the page, meaning that the first thing I have to do is shut off some (usually) very bad alternative music that comes blaring out at me. I don't get it? Why is this site so popular?

1. It is a vanity site geared toward teens.

2. I guess I'm just a crabby Gen Xer then.
I feel the generation gap between me and the Millennials more every day.

5. You are not alone.
I feel exactly the same way, but oddly, one of my favorite singers has a myspace page or whatever they call it.

6. Well for me, it's a free way to keep in touch with people.

Most of my family, and friends- myself as well- cannot afford Long Distance, or cell phones, to talk to eachother regularly. Most of us hate phones anyways. But, we can keep in touch on Myspace for free- plus, people I haven't seen in years have tracked me down on there and I think that's cool as hell.

It's not just a teen thing either- I'm 21, my aunt is on there, lots of her friends in their 30's, there are many DU'ers on there (we even have a Myspace DU group).

Sure it takes forever to load, the advertisements are a pain in the ass, etc. But, I can handle that in favor of the good things I get out of it.

8. people have no sense of privacy anymore
it's the same sentiment that allows them to discuss their personal problems on a cell phone behind me in line at the supermarket

10. Good way to network in my biz.
I freelance on a number of television shows, and my myspace "friends" are the people I've worked with in the past. It's useful in keep track of who's booking what gigs, since we are all changing jobs frequently, traveling around the country, and working very long hours.

The negatives that people bring up are true. It is poorly designed, and the security is loosey-goosey. There is a setting where you can disable music from starting automatically. LIke any site, the myspace people have been slow reacting to the problems all these user codes have created.

12. It's a place for people with names like "SexyKitten61"
..to meet other dysfunctional people who cannot get along with real human being outside of the veneer of the internet.

18. Let's be honest, there are a TON of sites that server the purpose
of allowing dysfunctional people who cannot get along with real human being outside of the veneer of the internet to meet others of the same ilk.

Political and non-political message boards included.

13. I like it for one reason
staying in touch, and finding old friends. I have found 10 old friends from my high school, and college days, on myspace.com. I am not one of those attention getting myspacers, and every single one of my friends, with the exception of two or three, I have met in real life, and have a good friendship with. I have a couple DUers as friends....:) DU has a group on myspace, if you didn't all ready know that...:)

I also, enjoy the profile page...albiet, I'm not one of those Gif happy people, who have do load down my page with all the GIFS IN CREATION...:) When I had dial up, there were quite a few profiles, I couldn't even look at....

16. It's for kids, man! Com'on, let them have their space, that's what it is
for.

Adults got things like DU, so they want their own space in cyberspace.

I can relate.

Didn't you ever hate your parents?

Ever?

Com'on, let them relate to each other in their space.
