Saw the Devil Wears Prada tonight....
It was a lot better than I expected....

of course there were cliches galore, what would a movie based on an industry based on cliches be without a few cliches....

Stanley Tucci was simply marvelous, don't be surprised if he gets a Best Actor nod....

And Meryl Streep was, well Meryl Streep....

The long and the short of it is, girl from, get this, a fictional college that can only be Northwestern (how original is THAT, hello Chicago, New York thinks you are podunk), goes to the Isle of Manhattan to full fill her dream of being a writer...

She ends up, so she thinks, at the bottom of the barrel by being hired as a 2nd assistant to the editor (Streep) of THE fashion magazine, Runway....

The wardrobes are stunning, the girls are long and lean and the music does not, thank god, blast away the movie...

There are several stunning montages that pay homage to that wonderful Audrey Hepburn movie, Funny Face...

And to be fair, one that falls off a runway quicker than Kate Moss chasing a fallen chunk of crack...

And perhaps the best part, the movie does not end like every woman watching that is older than 15 would expect it to end...

Perhaps a movie about having the courage to make choices is a wonderful way to set this summer of our discontent off from all the others...

The script is good and solid... No gapping holes...

Gawky Anne Hathaway, however, needs some more experience to set herself, as she should be, up and away from most of the young starlet wanna be's tarnishing the silver screen these days...

All in all, I would see the movie again, just for the stunning way director David Frankel uses the colorful and provacative clothing as an honorary member of the cast...

And oh yes, I now have to say, with a straight face, mind you, that I have a new grudging respect for all that goes into making the world of fashion what it truly is...

1. Now I am surprised to hear that this was a movie ......
that you'd want to see......

I mean, fashion is not one thing I've ever heard you express an interest in.....

Sounds very interesting!

I love Meryl Streep.......

And Anne Hathaway can be good too.....though she's young yet......

Good to see you tonight!

2. Not interested in the fashion....
Really, the only movie I could think of that an 85 year old woman might want to see...

17. I loved it and I'm not a chick flick person.
Meryl Streep was awesome, as usual, and Anne Hathaway was also quite good. Of course, the 20 or so gay boys I was with all loved it too.

9. Have you seen "Havoc"
It's a rather disappointing film by Barbara Kopple, but Hathaway does attempt a more "non-Anne Hathaway" type role. She's quite good in it. And, as always, gorgeous.

6. I Will See This
Because I adore Meryl Streep. The best line from a movie EVER was from her perfomance in A Cry In The Dark.

14. I really enjoyed it, too...
I'm interested in the fashion world, and lived in midtown Manhattan for a while so it was kinda like an 'armchair vacation' for me to see some of it.

Stanley Tucci was wonderful, as was Meryl Streep.

I'll definitely see it again, either in the theaters or b/c I've bought the DVD (probably the latter).

A great alternative to super-hero innundation this summer.

15. Meryl Streep is the only reason I would want to see that flick
Hell, I'd even go see a chick flick if it had Meryl Streep in it - she could bring life to a box of Cheerios

16. haven't seen it
can't wait to see Meryl's performance, but I was disappointed that Hathaway was cast in it. Y'all will never forgive me for saying this, but you know who I think would have been good at this part? Lindsay Lohan. I know she's a celebutante or whatever, but she can do comedy, her delivery and timing are spot on. Just in the parts of the trailer I've seen, Hathaway seems a little...contracted or something.

Of course it would have pissed alot of people off if Lohan had been cast, and some people might have boycotted the film just based on that. But I was disappointed to see Hathway had it. I don't know what young actress around could do that part, because they are either a celebutante type like Lohan or maybe can't do comedy; that's something that you either have a knack for or you don't. I don't even really know who the young actresses around these days really are, honestly, even Natalie Portman might be in her late 20's by now.

19. If it was a slapstick comedy....
Then I would say yes...

But LL doesn;t have the gravitas to play this role...
