Everyone's resting blood pressure
I just took mine at the gym a little while ago:

113/61

About normal. The lower number is usually closer to 65.

5. Normal for a woman who is in shape and thin
Mine is so low that I have to walk around the parking last fast and drink a load of gatorade before I can donate blood to the Red Cross.

8. I've never had to do that, but I do have to make an effort to get my iron
high enough. It didn't go down any when I went veg, it's always borderline low. Except when I was pregnant, then it was really low and I had to take those awful pills. :(

37. Ms. Mom...I am in the same boat
I am not nearly as thin, but I am appropriate for my height, body style and age.

If I get to 112/70, it is high for me...my BP has always been low, hovering around (average) 80 or 90 over 60. Occasionally it lurks around 80/50. However, this has been normal for me my entire life. I feel pretty good about my B and cholesterol levels for a gal of 46 pushing 47.

Funny, when I get scared or nervous, it gets LOWER!

The dentist has to have a monitored cuff on me, because I have been known to pass completely out if he happens to hit a large enough feeder vein with Novocaine. Not from fear either, cause I get the blue pill or gas, depending on how my mood is the day of the appointment (does not matter if I am having sedated dentistry, wide awake dentistry, or gas dentistry, it all effects me the same)

I also have been know to will it lower...my family doctor and his regular PA occasionally ask me to perform this "trick". I have been known to take it from 100/60 straight down to 90 or 80 over 60 with deep breaths and concentration in less than a minute.

I'm not in shape, though amazingly thin. Apart from a bulge I'd rather not have. And not that one either...

43. I have a few ( 15-20) extra pounds, in so-so shape, and mine is lowish.
Mine was 99/60 at last check. When I'm in better shape, it's easily 90/55. I have to eat huge meals and drink lots of fluids before giving blood as I've briefly passed out before. When I'm in better shape, I get orthostatic- dizzy when I get up quickly. The only time I was ever 120/80 was when I was 9 months pregnant and a good 200 pounds.

6. I know it's on the low end, it s always has been
I'm young and smallish (okay, smallish is an understatement- flvegan called me a waif yesterday) and veg which are all things that would put my blood pressure on the low end.

My doctor doesn't think it's at all problematic, she's much more likely to cluck at me about keeping my iron up. I'll put a little extra salt on my food though. :)

23. up until the past year or so
mine was always 90-something over 50-something. For me that WAS NORMAL.....

The docs tick me off because they're unconcerned that it's now 110/80 - they say THAT's normal - but for me that's high - and I'm having headaches. :(

3. 104/62, pulse 72. And, until 4 days ago, I never do proper exercise.
Edited on Sat Jul-15-06 02:57 PM by HypnoToad
:D

Just after exercise (elliptical trainer, medium setting for 10 mins before I get too exhausted) it's 137/78, pulse 89.

Just 2 years ago I could do the top setting for 25 minutes before giving up in abject boredom...

10. Your resting blood pressure is excellent!
Mine tends to be higher.....120's over 60's to 80's......

I take medications, work out and am losing weight....but it still is higher than I'd like.....

I must keep on working on it, to keep on living!

17. What do you take? My bp is creeping up and I am trying so hard
to keep it down. It is now variously up to 150/90 in the afternoon but very normal at night (117/80).

I take toprol xl, hctz, and norvasc every day. I work out 4 to 5 days a week and have a great diet.I've cut back to one half a cup of coffee per day and have no caffeine otherwise. I don't smoke. I retired from a high pressure, high stress job. I don't know why I can't get the bp down. I think I need better meds. I've done my part here!

40. I'm 5'6" and 156 lbs.
so I deem that slightly overweight. I'm down 15 lbs. from 2 years ago, mostly due to increased exercise and better eating habits (and less food in general). Until I injured my left shoulder and elbow I was lifting weights. NOw I just use the leg weight machines. I am going to try to increase the time I spend on the treadmill from 1/2 hour to 3/4 of an hour, four times a week. That should help.

41. Getting the weight off will definitely help.......
I'd agree that you are slightly overweight.....

I am too, at 5'7" and 157 pounds......

I want to get down to at least 150!

And then I'll see how I look and feel.........

You have the right idea re the treadmill.....more time on it will help you lose the weight!

42. 150 would be great! 149 even better (sounds better)
And I think more times per week on the treadmill will help (5 or 6 instead of 4).

But as for the bp, I think a new prescription should be in order. My spouse is overweight and does not exercise and he got his high bp down to normal on meds alone. Well, I know 2 people arent' the same but still! I mean, here I am busting my butt and really trying...

Ain't fair.

But they bring their own problems....

It is much better to control your BP with weight loss and exercise........

46. Yes, I know what you are saying is true but
if I am doing all I can, then meds are the only remedy left.

I don't like having to take them but I prefer taking them to not taking them and risking problems.

Don't worry, I'll continue my regimen of diet and exercise. I like the way I feel when I eat right and work out. All those endorphins...

This has worked well for both me and my sister. I also take a low dose of Labetalol, and that combination seems to keep the hpb under control.

and exercise...I've recently left my job, increased my exercise, lost 13 pounds and I quit smoking 15 years ago (therefore the weight gain) but I also come from a family with hypertension resulting in early death (40s & 50s) from heart attacks and strokes...so now at 53, I'm really paying attention. I've got a lot a things planned...and I don't intend to miss any of it.

32. Usually 20s over 70s now.
Six months ago it was routinely 160 - 100. The doctors put me on medication but I didn't like it, and it only brought it down a little. So I started exercising and drinking more water, and it came down. Then I quit the medication, and it still stayed down.
