1. My grandfather lived to the age of 92 |
|
and would get pissed if you tried to take away his whiskey, McDonalds, ring-dings, (more or less deep-)fried eggs, Jerry Springer, pork bellies or porn. Further, he was a diabetic with a serious heart condition the last 30 years of his life who slept 2 hours a day between 1PM and 3PM.
Old people can be surprising.
I kinda miss him now.

2. My backyard neighbor is an 86 year old artist....she has 2 beers a day |
|
almost every day, between 5pm and 6pm (her "cocktail hour"). She's a delightful southern lady, full of life and ready to rumble!

7. My grandmother drank ginger brandy every single night |
|
until she passed away at 85. She told me not to cry when she died but instead, call the owner of the liquor store and tell them that crazy old lady didn't need ginger brandy stocked anymore.
The night before her service, all the family gathered in her sister's house and we all had tiny communion cups with ginger brandy in them. We toasted my ornery grandmother and tipped back our cups. Simultaneously, 30 people coughed, sputtered and said "How did she drink this stuff??" I'm sure she was laughing at us all. I slipped the open bottle of brandy into her coffin. I miss her terribly. She had such strength and while she complained bitterly about the little things, she never once complained about her lot in life. And she had a very hard life. I hope I can be more like her.
Thanks for giving me a chance to reminisce.
:)

8. My grandmother was still dutifully having her evening glass of sherry |
|
until her death last year at the age of 99. I believe my other grandmother kept the tradition up until shortly before her death at the age of 90 as well
