Should I watch the 2nd half of The Forty Year Old Virgin? |
|
I get lots of cable movies, and started watching The Forty Year Old Virgin last night. I heard it was really a good, funny movie, and I like Steve Carell.
After the first 15 minutes, I was wondering when it was going to get good and/or funny. I decided to stick it out for a while longer because the reviews were so good. Then after 1/2 hour, I was still waiting for it to get good or more than passably funny.
After an hour, I went to bed.
So - should I waste another minute (or hour) on it?

1. It's got a few good lines, but it's not the marvel everyone thinks it is. |

3. It's all a matter of taste |
|
Chances are, if you didn't like the first 1/2 hour, you won't like the rest so don't waste your time.
Me, I thought it was really funny and I even bought the DVD.

5. Thanks for your input. I won't watch any more. It's clearly not my taste |
|
Having said that, sometimes movies that are "not my taste" are surprisingly good. The best example I can think of is Animal House. I didn't see that in the movie theatre when it first came out, but when it came on cable in the early 80's, I watched and nearly fell off my chair laughing. It's one of my favorite comedies of all time, and I watch it over and over when it comes back on cable or on regular TV.

4. what I liked about this movie was that in the end it is really |
|
a sweet love story with a message that I happen to agree...you should date someone about 20 times before having sex with them...
I am not a fan of sex on the first date and, it seems to be expected in this day and age...
just my 2 pennies
if you watch the movie for all the hype you will be let down...

7. I actually thought it got better as it progressed... |
|
past a lot of the visual gags into a nice little love story. Still kinda crude, but if you liked Animal House, that doesn't seem like the sort of thing that would bother you...
Actually, my very favorite part of the movie is the end (might even be when the credits are rolling, I don't remember exactly) - a scene with most (if not all) of the characters was really very happy/uplifting/silly-funny.
