Has anyone tried the "Dish Network" for their TV service?
I'm just wondering if it's any good, if the service is good, etc. We are considering getting it. They keep mailing us flyers with very attractive offers ($19.95/month, etc.)
Thanks

Their web site is

1. We use Dish, and I love it for two reasons: Link TV and Free Speech TV
the only legitimate liberal media left.

2. I have it and love it.
The only problem I've ever had is that the boxes keep cooking themselves (3 boxes in 4 years) but I suspect that is because my mother pushes it flush back to the wall so it doesn't vent properly (they have a CPU so they get really hot) and my cat sleeps on top of it. Other than that, never had a problem. Sometimes the signal goes out if it is raining really heavily or snowing and there is a lot of cloud cover. I live on the side of a mountain in Connecticut so it should happwen more often than it does. Usually we still have DISH when nobody around us has cable.

I had DirecTV when I lived in Philly and I liked DISH better but it's really a matter of preference. DISH is cheaper and I'd argue better if you are into movies (DISH's premium movie packages (HBO, Starz, Cinemax, etc.) are cheaper) but DirecTV has better sports coverage.(especially NFL Sunday Ticket, which is a DirecTV exclusive.)

3. Thanks very much for the reply. I'm definitely more into movies than
sports, so it sounds like the right service for me. When the boxes cook, do they replace them for free?
Thanks

6. I don't know...
the bill goes to my mom, I don't think so though and they wack you $100 for the service call.

Good advice there, they subcontract their install/repair services to local subcontractors. When you call them they charge you $100, pocket half (for doing nothing) and pay the subcontractor $50. My local subcontractor told me to call him direct, he can fix anything wrong with it and would only charge me $60 for the service call. Ask your installer if you can call him direct for service when/if you need it.

5. For one thing, Rupert Murdoch doesn't own Dish.
I really like it. It gets way more expensive when you start adding in other channels (your locals, Fox Sports World because your stupid husband has to watch Sky Sports News every day, etc.), but I still like it. Service sometimes goes out during bad weather, but all satellites do.

9. Yikes! The same movies over and over and over.......
Get Netflicks and see a NEW (maybe to you) movie! I used to have the "packages" but really got tired of the repeating movies.
