Should I tell my neighbors their cat looks like Hitler? |
|
I mean it in the nicest possible way.
They're new in the complex; I don't know them. I was walking past their unit last night and their black and white cat was perched on a windowsill looking out at the world and at me. He or she looks like some of the cats posted at wwww.catswholooklikehitler.com, so maybe they would want to post a photo there.
Shall I mention it or not? If yes, then how should I raise the subject?

9. Many of the kitlers do look like Charlie Chaplin. This cat looks |
|
like Charlie Chaplin also, but it just isn't as funny.

I'd tell my neighbor that his cat looked like Hitler, provided my neighbor wasn't Jewish.

8. I'm Jewish and I think the website is hysterical. Normally, I don't |
|
find anything "Hitler" even a bit funny....
I downloaded the "kitler" I think is the best, and have it up on a bulletin board near my computer. I laugh every time I look at it.

11. Well, you're a little more open-minded. |
|
you have to be careful about things like this, some people offend easily.
I learned that the hard way in 7th grade when one of my teacher's aides tried to have me suspended for anti-semitism because I had the audacity to correct her over a point of fact on the Berlin Wall. (She tried to claim that the wall was built by the Americans as punishment against the Germans for the holocaust. It was actually built by the Soviets to stop defections to the West.)
She actually had the audacity to attempt to argue to the school board and my history teacher that my saying that the Berlin Wall had nothing to do with the holocaust constituted holocaust denial.
Better safe than sorry was my policy from then-on-out.

Don't let one complete freak dissuade you from sharing what amounts to totally innocent humor. I'm Jewish, with a death-camp suvivor father, and I find the following things funny:
The Cats That Look Like Hitler website.
The "Mr. Show" sketch about Hitler clones. (They all drink at a "Hitler Bar!" How the fuck is that NOT hilarious?)
Any and all Monty Python stuff involving Nazis. (John Cleese as Hitler? Brilliant.)
"The Producers."
Jon Stewart's "Hitler: The Larry King Interview."
I could go on and on and on. Hitler left a huge stain across the history, and is certainly going to be one of the world's most well-known historical figures for probably centuries to come. He's GOT to be fodder for humor, or we as a species irrevocably suck.

10. It depends. Do they have any cool stuff you might want to borrow? |
|
You might want to hold off in that case.

12. Honestly, if someone told me my cat looked like Hitler |
|
it would probably hurt my feelings... I don't know why... but it probably would. If they said they were cute, adorable, pretty... it would be a better start to the conversation...
just sayin'...

13. Well, that's why I asked for advice. It sounds like a terrible insult, |
|
until you visit the website, and see lots of cute cats that happen to have that "Hitler" look.

14. You could approach it indirectly... |
|
...say something like "is your cat planning a putsch?", or ask if he's a Social Democrat.

15. That reminds me. I'm precinct captain and don't want to lose a voter. |
|
The neighbors are new so I won't have them on a new precinct list that I'm receiving this week. Don't know their political affiliations or leanings.
