Don't you hate it when somebody apologizes?
Not that "mistakes were made" stuff, but a solid, thoughtful, heartfelt apology that goes through everything that ticked you off and talks about steps to change behavior in the future, acknowledges error, and shows real empathy?

Nothing worse to take the fun out of a good, righteous mad. :) Hate it. :)

1. sorry.
I hate half-assed apologies. I hate it when people who did nothing WRONG apologize.
But then I'm canadian, I apologize for the hell of it.

3. No...
Especially if it was my fault.

I did something wrong, and you're sorry, taking blame and altering your behavior to prevent future disagreements? Okay. <shrug>

I hate people who won't stop apologizing when the issue is settled though. I call them dead-horse apologizers. You know, those people who break a glass and for two hours say "I really am sorry." arrggghh!!

4. Actually, I think it shows character
when someone apologizes.

And character when someone can accept the apology gracefully.

5. I've always used apologies, especially when I'm not even in the wrong

If I apologize, esp. if I wasn't the one to screw up, it does an even better job of making that person think about what's going on (and deflate all hostility). I've recovered more than one friendship that way.\

ON EDIT: I think it's best to add that I AM always sincere in my apologies.

6. That doesn't bother me, what gets to me is when her friend apologizes
for her.

That doesn't make any sense to me.

7. It depends.
I really hate gushing-ness - especially when it's genuine.

If people are too effusive with their thanks, apologies, compliments &c.&c. I just want to dash to the lavatory to vomit.
