It was a good movie, but basically "Traffic" except with oil instead of drugs. The whole layout of the movie was about the same with George Clooney pretty much doing the Benecio Del Toro part (ironically they both won best Supporting Actors too).
However despite the fact that the movies were pretty much scripted and filmed in the same exact manner, I found it to be pretty good and very informative (based on real story). I think my favorite part was watching how that Pakistani working for the oil company ends up becoming a Suicide Bomber - there was some interesting aspects as to how these kids are recruited into this horrid crime (the Post-Mortem Video was kinda interesting).
Finally a question:
What exactly killed Matt Damon's son at the Emir's party? Was that a direct hit or just an accidental drowning?

2. Syriana is such a good movie |
|
It could be a little bit confusing at times but overall, it was MUCHO EXELLENTE.
The really sad part was when the good emir candidate was blown up by the US govmnt or whoever. I loved him. Alot.
I never knew what killed Matt Damon's son either...

4. Wasn't there a scene where the "good emir" seemed to be pandering |
|
to Islamic fundamentalists (or at least hardliners)?
I had the impression that Nasir was good at being whomever he needed to be in order to build his own power (his deal with China, his progressive reform speech to Matt Damon, his pandering to the circle of fundies).
If so, it would fit the overall theme of double-dealing and betrayal throughout the movie.

3. I finally saw it this weekend too. What struck me was the sense |
|
that, like in Network, there are no countries anymore, just large corporate fiefdoms.
