**I found my new cat! And...the name revealed!**
Okay, so, here he is, my new guy:

The picture does not do him justice, he is much cuter than that. He is ten months old or so, and has been with his foster mom since he was just 5 weeks old. He is a cuddly love bug, loves tummy rubs, and follows you around the house like a dog. He is feline leukemia and HIV negative, already neutered, never uses his claws or teeth for anything, and uses the litterbox perfectly. All his new things are already set up at my house, ready for him. I get him at the end of the week from his foster mommy.

And his name will be...(DRUMROLL PLEASE)...

Dr. Evil, Doc for short. I want him to be a criminal mastermind in his spare time. Isn't he awesome?

Thanks to all for the terrific name suggestions. I seriously considered both Mr Smith and Superdude before settling on Dr. Evil. You guys are the best. :)

If you really want to see him, you can right click on "properties" and past the URL into your browser address box. That's a lot of work to see someone else's cat, though. :)

12. Oh, thanks.
I was actually perfectly willing to adopt an older cat, too, but this was the one they thought would be the best match for the personality I wanted - affectionate and a little dopey. :)

When I went to see the lady, she had new fluffy kittens too. I knew I was in the market for a young adult or adult, so I avoided even LOOKING at the kittens, lest their tractor beams of cuteness suck me in! LOL!

His momma was a stray and the first five weeks of his life were very scary, but if I have anything to say about it, Doc will never be scared again. :loveya:

15. I had a cat in college
named Dr. Forbes. It was kind of a social experiment. Dr. Forbes was female, but
nearly 100% of the time, people heard the name and thought she was male.

My atrocious ex wouldn't let me keep her, so my parents kindly took her.
Even when she was extremely old, we'd drive up and she'd meet me at the car.
I loved that girl.

18. Oh I would have
but I had been in an awful car accident with a broken jaw
among other broken bones, and with the pain and meds, was
too weak to do that. Plus, he was an abusive bastard. When
I was in chemo for cancer, he shoved me out of the car on
a freeway. I wasn't emotionally able to say "shove it".
At least I could see her at my folks' house.

So sorry to hear all of that. Amazing the capacity humans have to love even when we've been abused. After all that, you still took comfort from the simple exchange of affection between you and Dr Forbes.

21. She was very special
I have a terrific hubby now (derby378) after many
years of therapy, I was able to love and feel loved.
I think Dr. Forbes helped maybe more than the
therapist. She never held a grudge because I was
forced to give her up.

17. Dr. Evil's brother in crime struck this weekend
My six-year old classic tabby, Corky (his name when I adopted him) decided to do some climbing while I was away over the weekend. Out of my three kitties, he is the only one who still climbs on top of the kitchen cabinets, unfortunately he's too much of a chicken to get down on his own without doing some sort of damage. This time he decided to knock open the freezer door, rendering about sixty dollars worth of food history. I can't blame him, since I wasn't there to help him down.

Dr. Evil is a wonderful looking cat, I hope both of you will be happy for many years to come.

45. yES...your kitty is awesome! I just acquired an 8 week old little kitty
by accident (I don't think it was by accident really). She is the most precious thing I have EVER owned.

Follows me around like your kitty...when she sleeps, she lays on my arm or my husband's arm, she just wants to feel humans. IT IS WONDERFUL.

You are very lucky. My kittys name is Little Bit (husband's name) and I want to call her boo. Her arms and legs are WAY TOO long...and I was afraid she was part jack rabbit, but you know what?????

I LOVE her just the way she is...

Good luck to you

51. if your kitty is still growingthe long legs could be just a phase- my girl
had a tail for a while that was WAAAYYY too long-- then the rest of her body caught up and then she was perfectly proportioned. But then again some cats are just more long and lithe than others.

49. the mark of...Mary? of Mohammed?
http://messybeast.com/folktails.htm

FELINE FOLKTAILS(sic)

..To Muslims pigs and dogs are unclean, but the fastidious cat is tolerated. The Prophet Mohammed had a tabby cat which fell asleep on the sleeve of his robe. Rather than disturb the cat, he cut off his sleeve when he answered the muezzin (call to prayer). This cat once warned Mohammed of danger and to this day tabby cats have the 'M' mark on the foreheads in remembrance of his blessing and three dark lines on their backs where he stroked his cat.

The Egyptians believed the 'M' to depict the sacred Scarab beetle while in Christian folklore it is the mark of the Virgin Mary who blessed a cat which killed a venomous snake sent by the Devil to bite the Christ child in his crib. In a related version from Christian folklore, the infant Jesus was laying in the mangershivering from cold. Alerted by his cries, a mother tabby cat lay next to the child to warm him up. In gratitude, Mary stroked the cats forehead, marking it with an 'M' and to this day, the caring mother cat's descendents all carry the mark of Mary.

The non-religious version suggests that the 'M' is a set of frown-lines where the cat has been staring at a mouse-hole in concentration, waiting for the mouse emerge!
