Ladies and Gentlemen — I give you Tropical Storm Beryl

http://www.weather.com/maps/news/atlstorm2/projectedpath_large.html?from=wxcenter_maps

http://www.weather.com/maps/news/atlstorm2/tropsat_large.html

We now have Tropical Storm Beryl centered about 180 miles southeast of the North Carolina Coast. A tropical storm watch remains in effect for the North Carolina coast between Currituck Beach Light and Cape Lookout. Beryl should slide toward the NNW or NW before eventually turning northeastward.

Meanwhile, in the eastern Pacific, Daniel (75 mph) has become a hurricane. Daniel, located almost 900 miles SSW of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, is forecast to continue strengthen. Daniel is forecast to move generally westward, however, away from land. Another area of thunderstorms, about 550 miles SSW of Acapulco, appears to be slowly organizing and could become a tropical depression in the near future.

1. Good luck, folks who are in the projected path.
Hope the thing doesn't strengthen. Might be good to go stock up on supplies, though.

4. Doin fine!
Working when I have to, goofing off when I don't have to.

Taking a break from political worries, so that I can be rested and ready for the 2006 elections.

:hi:

You are in the path of Beryl, aren't you? Please take care of yourself and get supplies to carry you over for a week. :)

15. Hi, midlo!

I have missed you!

I am doing fine! Teaching this summer when I have to, goofing off with my son when I'm not working. We camped a couple of weeks ago for about four days...had a wonderful time.

Just killin' time and enjoying the summer.

How are you doing?

20. I've missed you, too.
We've had an interesting summer. My FIL passed in his bed on May19th, but he went in his sleep, no better way to go.

The day after we buried him, my husband, who, like my FIL had been suffering with a slight case of pneumonia, appeared to get worse. I took him to the ER thinking that he would just need some antibiotics. Nope. Congestive heart failure.

Then, on the 6th of June, he went in for a cardiac cath to see if his heart was weak from a blockage or the pneumonia and he needed to have a quadruple bypass which happened on the 8th.

He is doing great, Thank God. Came through beautifully and is probably going to start cardiac rehab sometime next week. His company has short term disability, so he is taking the full 90 days, which is wonderful. Now that he is driving again, he's been chauffeuring the kids everywhere and then running errands for me. He still can't lift more than 10 pounds and won't be able to until his sternum heals.

But. I'm not complaining. It could have been so much worse. I actually feel blessed that it was caught because I don't know what I would do without him.

I feel that at some point the concrete that was previously my shoulder and neck muscles might return to normal.

:loveya:

41. Oh my god.
I am so sorry that I missed all of this.

My condolences to your family for the loss of your father-in-law.

And HUGE HUGS to you, for what I know you are going through as you help your husband through this terrible time. It is good to hear that he is recuperating--and I know that you are glad that he can help out by running errands and such. His company's policy sounds great. Not many like that left these days.

Please be sure to take time to take care of yourself. When our loved ones suffer, lots of time we don't take time for ourselves, and it can affect our own health.

You'll be in my prayers. I'll PM you my email addy, in case you don't have it any more.

6. My humble wish
Is that the ONLY person it affects is Bush, as it blows him off Pennsylvania Avenue, and dumps him into the Potomac. Barring that, I hope the hurricane passes safely by, with minimal damage or loss.

Hey, did you see Virginia Beach made #6 on the Best Places to Live - Big Cities list? hahahaha. I suppose if you like endless malls and eroded beaches with rampant jellyfish and tourists so thick you can beat them off with a stick of saltwater taffy...

Oh, and the fact that Pat Robertson hails from there... :nuke:

40. Where I live now
The restaurants are supreme and ethnically diverse to the extreme, the weather is the best in the nation, Democrats and liberals are in the majority, there are green rolling hills, wide clean beaches, whales, palm trees, and union membership is permitted, along with a living wage. :D

Virginia Beach... ugh. I had to live there because my Dad was in the Navy. What's funny is all my friends gave me crap when I was the first to leave, saying they liked it there, etc. But as reality after college set in, they all left too, lol. ;-)

32. I don't either
I lived there for 12.5 years off and on, including a 9 year stretch which included all of junior high, high school, and the first few years of college.

Very boring and ULTRAconservative. Flat, dull, and soulless. Plus, I couldn't turn around without bumping into a church full of Republicans and fundies.

Leaving there was the best move I ever made! :D

55. The Northeast is due for a hurricane this season (experts)
According to this article the Northeast is due for a hurricane this season, due to coastal waters being 4-5 degrees warmer than usual-

http://www.seacoastonline.com/news/07202006/nhnews-ph-p-hurricane.html

and look how Beryl is gaining strength as it heads north, and interesting anomaly-

http://localnewsleader.com/jackson/stories/index.php?action=fullnews&id=204176

It probably won't last but this bodes poorly for future storms.
