Direct TV signal going weird -- is it the dish? |
|
So we have had Direct TV for more than a year, and for the last couple of weeks there has been some sort of disturbance in the picture -- portions of it go digital occasionally on certain channels. MSNBC and CNN are the worst -- the screen even goes to gray at times, and then back to the digital scramble, and then the real pic comes on for a second, and then back to gray, etc. Channels without any live satellite news feeds like those have are not breaking up at all.
Any ideas? The user manual was no help at all.

1. Conspiracy theory of the day... |
|
Since evil Rupert Murdoch owns DirectTV, he's blocking all news outlets that aren't Faux News.
But seriously, that's funky, how's the weather been in your area?

crazy, huh? No problem with FOX or CNBC or any of the others. Just CNN and MSNBC, the two channels I watch the most. Weather? Normal. Some rain, some sun. No extremes.

2. Check the signal strength on the transponders for the problem stations. |

You may have to realign your dish.

4. A tree branch may have grown in the way... |
|
...At least that's what happened to my parents with their DirecTV dish. They had it for 2 years, and then the same problems that you have started occuring. Turned out a tree across the yard had grown a new branch that year, that blocked part of the signal.

1) It's been a while since I've had Direct TV, and there may also be a re-set button on the receiver. Press & hold that for like 15 seconds, if I recall. 2) Unplug the receiver for a few minutes & then plug it back in
if you call Direct TV help, they will likely have you do those things first.
If that doesn't work, switch to DISH network. DISH = George Soros; Direct TV = Rupert Murdoch.

6. sounds like the weather |

I notice once in a while that I get some of those digital jiggles--usually right before a thunderstorm starts up--or maybe on a very cloudy day (but not a regualr occurence).Wih the HD receievr it's not as bad, except when a storm messes up the staellite signal.
Yeah yeah I know Old Rupert owns DirecTV, BUT Dish is missing something--Setanta Sports. This season I believe Setanta is going to start showing some EPL games that used to be available only on PPV, and Dish doesn't have Setanta. Besides, I have all of the Fox channels blocked out  I don't even bother with CN or MSNBC, that's what I watch BBC and SKy News on FSC for :bounce:
