Need Advice: Direct TV or Dish TV? I've had it with cable. I want to spend |
|
less for TV I hardly ever watch but I know I cannot do without Comedy Central, ESPN, PBS, and I do like the classic movie channels that come with out a premium.
Now we have Time Warner Digital Tier TV and Roadrunner. $106 per month!!! When we drop the "digital cable" we will keep the Road Runner (unless there is a high speed alternative that's as good and cheaper-I don't know of one) And our Road Runner will go up to about $45.
Tell me what you think. I've heard there is some interesting progressive programming on some of the satellite plans.
I appreciate the feedback!

1. Welll.....if you feel adventurous |
|
Get a Canadian Sattelite Dish. You get the American lineup, PLUS CBC.
And it gets better reception

3. Well technically its against Canadian Law |
|

So you need a Canadian Address to ship the dish and equipment to...but there is no law saying where you can install the dish. There are a number of websites that tell you the settings for where you live.
And it is a little cheaper - works out to like 14.95 American a month.
I can send you the links if you're interested.

6. Here in the States, I like Dish because I can get Link and Free Speech |
|
TV, as well as Comedy Central and other channels I like. The one downside is that you can often NOT get the local MSM stations (CBS, NBC, etc.) if there is an antenna in your area where Dish thinks you SHOULD be able to pull those in on your own. They keep telling us we can get the local stations out of the Twin Cities, and we can't but who cares.

7. I've used both, loved Dish, get angry a lot at DirectTV. |
|
But I used DirectTV about six years ago, so they may have changed. I don't remember what my problem was--probably billing--but I could never feel good about them, so I dumped them, then a year later went to Dish. Never a problem with them. I bought a dish and box, instead of renting them. No idea if that makes a difference.
Anyway, with both, the picture and reception is clear as long as you have a way to point the antenna south. It does fade at times if there's a very heavy rain storm between you and the satelite. Usually goes out for a minute or so, then fades back in. Here in Austin, that's maybe once every three months, thought sometimes a little more. It doesn't rain here, much, though.
Other than that, way better than TW. For that matter, as often as my cable went out when I had TW, I probably still came out ahead with Dish.

|
But there's my answer as to why I have Dish and not Direct.

14. I switched because of Murdoch |
|
Soros invested in Echostar after I switched to DISH (I believe Echostar is the satellite DISH uses or something?)

10. Base price on DirecTV |
|
is about $45. That with your Roadrunner at $45, you're not saving much. You can get the lower speed DSL for about $14.95. The higher speed DSL is usually about $29.95. Unless you don't have DSL where you live.
