DU Beach Gathering. If we have it - here's what to expect
We wouldn't actually be hanging out on the beach in our swimsuits. I'm talking about a fall trip to Virginia Beach where you could get a reasonably priced hotel room facing the ocean without breaking your bank account.

I would try to look for a location where we could gather without constraints of a bar that has an age requirement or costly beverages. what would really be neat is if we could find a location where we could setup a campfire on the beach and hang out for the night. Great thing is - it would be something that you could bring your kids along for the trip.

The locaiton would be in Virginia Beach probably in early October. Maybe as an activity we could help out during the day with campaigning for Jim Webb (running against that idiot Sen Allen). The main thing would be one big evening activity on Saturday night and perhaps one Saturday afternoon event. We could easily find a hotel room for less than $100/night (although if you need higher quality there are plenty of hotels like that in the area).

Basically this will be like any typical gathering but instead of in the overpriced city we'll have it at a beach town where we can be a bit more relaxed.

1. Kick
Sounds like a good idea. It's possible there's some interest from the Boston/Matcom contingent.

2. If we got enough rooms, we could probably get a discount
And, the rooms would be WAY less that $100 that time of year.

But... I ain't doing any campaigning... I want to toast marshmallows and talk about public breastfeeding and smoking and sundry things...

5. Campaigning for Webb would be a great idea.
I'm looking into a fundraiser for him in my neighborhood; when I get ahold of his campaign manager, maybe we could ask Webb to come also?

7. We could do a 'Polar Dip' on Sunday morning
:D

There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to go into the Ocean. And perhaps we can find a hotel that has a heated pool too!

8. Foolish child... this isn't the warmish water of the south NC beaches
This is No-Gulf-Stream-Warming Water.... October can be warm, cold, or in between... you never know!

9. Hm. It's not Texas or Mississippi, then, I guess. I've been to many
a beach in October, November, even December around here. I don't usually feel like a polar bear.

12. We should see if we can get into Little Creek - fun bars in there
I spent my 20th birthday on the Little Creek base. My friends had the DJ announce it was my birthday - needless to say our entire group didn't pay for a thing the rest of the night
