Slang question for the Brits
What does "trex" mean?

I'm reading The Information by Martin Amis, and he uses this word frequently; however, I am not familiar with it. I've even tried looking it up on British slang web sites and have yet to find any entries for it.

I'm reasonably familiar with most British slang due to a childhood primarily spent reading and watching BritComs, but I'm stumped on this one.

(Is it even a normal slang word? Perhaps an Amis fabrication?)

4. OK, I'm not a Brit, but I did live there, and am an Amis fan
My guess is, you're reading The Information?

Trex was (still is maybe) the brand name for something that was kind of like Crisco.

Tull uses the term as a derogatory one, as he uses it to describe literature that he thinks is silly.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

5. Thank you!
That makes perfect sense on a couple different fronts. (I am reading The Information, btw.)

It explains why I couldn't ever find it on a slang website -- since it's not really a slang term. And also why I've never heard of it.

Thanks!

7. Oh no
I started a few years ago with Money and have since read London Fields, Night Train, Heavy Water and The War Against Cliche (a collection of his lit crit, reviews, essays and such).

He's rapidly become one of my favorite contemporary authors.

Are you a fan too?

10. I have not as of yet
I actually picked up a couple of his books from my used book dealer, but I haven't started either of them. I'm a bit backed up currently.

Do you have any recommendations?
