What music have you heard recently? |
|
Most recently:
Some Girls - Crushing Love (absolutely 4 stars out of 4!)
Golden Smog - Another Fine Day (on full album listening party - has some moments in the middle of the CD, but overall I think it's unfocused. Like the band members had to get parts of their separate groups in. 2.5/4)
a few songs from the Pipettes and Lily Allen - liked Lily Allen's classic rock meets funk style, but thought the Pipettes were only competent. Like McFly, they aren't like the real thing.
some songs from Lisa Germano's In the Maybe World - it's a little depressing without more of a change of pace. Thought it might live up to Geek The Girl, but it doesn't sound like it does.
samples from the new Soul Asylum - sounds like it rocks to me. Another case where I would likely disagree with most music critics.

I love when albums get leaked onto the internet.
Today I've been on a bit of a Blood Brothers kick, though.

7. Lots and lots of bluegrass |
|
I was at a bluegrass festival in NY last weekend. Uncle Earl (an all women old timey band) rocks my world. Also I got to see Abigail Washburn play with Bela Fleck and that was just too cool for words. Linky things if'n you care: http://www.uncleearl.net/http://www.abigailwashburn.com/

Canciones para America.
Old recording, dates back to the days of Joan Baez.
Still powerful after all these years.
