of being sick and tired. Not that I'm ill, just recovering from surgery. I think the anasthetic has caused me to feel depressed (?). I'm sore, I'm down on myself because the house is a mess. We're renovating. Husband is being stuck with all the work and I just sit here feeling sorry for myself. I'm making meals and un/loading the dishwasher and that's about it. Maybe it's the darvocet, who the heck knows. I just want to NOT be sick and tired of being sick and tired. I want to feel useful again. I feel so lame at times.
I hate self pity and here I am falling into it.

Anyone with persistent pain is likely to feel a bit down. Anesthetic doesn't help the situation. I'm sorry you feel down. I hope thing look and feel better soon.

6. Aw, I'm sorry and I understand |

I hate feeling helpless and having to ask others to do stuff that I feel like I should be doing myself. It's a stressful feeling. Still, you have to remind yourself that you have a valid reason for being out of commission.
Take care of yourself and try not to focus on what you can't change.

8. I went through the same thing last year. |
|
I had surgery for a burst appendix and there were complications that kept me down for nine months. But, since March everything has resolved itself and in April I started getting back to normal in leaps and bounds. I'm back to my old self again. I'm taking 60 minute walks everyday at Elizabeth Park in Trenton. I'm back to my old routine. I didn't really get depressed during those nine months because I knew I would get my life back together. I did what I could around the house and I would go to a store like Meijer or K-mart everyday, get a basket that I could hold on to, and walk around the store to get my strength back. I did what the doctor's said to do and now I feel good. Just hang in there. The more little things you can think of to do will help give you the strength to move on to bigger things. It takes time. Think of things you never had time to do before. Get caught up on your reading. Watch a lot of old movies you never had time to watch before. Toss in a little work and a little exercise in between and before you know it--you're back.
As far as your house being a mess, I'm going to pass on something that a friend said to me: "People will come over to your house and they will say one of two things. 'Gosh, Carolyn's house is filthy. But, she's been sick and I'm sure she will get things cleaned up when she' feeling better'. OR-- they will say: 'Well, Carolyn's dead! But, BOY is her house CLEAN!"
Pick your battles. Right now your number one battle is recovering.  :pals:

Recovery from illness and surgery can be a battle. I know you hate to hear this but if you try to get up and so something it might help, watch a movie, read a book, go outside on the patio with a drink of your choosing or if the house is bothering you, pick up just one room to give you sesne of accomplisment. I hate it when my house is a mess but with a four and six year old, it stays that way.

10. When I feel like that I stop and count my blessings... |
|
First and foremost, that I am here; my condition and surgery didn't kill me and neither will yours. Just keep reminding yourself that everything will still be there when you're ready to deal with it.
Drive to Lake Michigan and sit on the beach. Go see that grandbaby. Remember what really matters. This too shall pass.
And remember all of your pals who think you're great -- me included!
